September 22, 2000
We have been invited to join some other local troops in our Service Unit to sing on the ellipse at the White House during December. Our exact date will be determined soon. I was told we can get some more information at www.nps.gov/whho/pageant.
Publicity
GSCNC is looking for pictures of girl scouts in action. I am sending in pictures from Disney and kayaking. If anyone one or group did something they want publicized please send me a picture and I will get it to GSCNC.
Possible
Program Ideas
We just got the new Mosaic. There aren’t as many programs for older girls but Mrs. Irvin picked out a few for you to consider. See the attached sheet and bring it to the Monday meeting with your rankings. It's placed on a different page for easy printing. Go here:
For
all the girls that attended the planning meeting: GREAT JOB! Don’t for get
your assignments from you own committee and the one to submit a name of a person
(who you have contacted) to the research committee for inclusion as a speaker.
Email the name to Pajeemee@aol.com.
Money
and orders can come in at the October 2 meeting as calendar sales don’t start
till then.
Thank you Mrs. Debner for volunteering for SHARE. I think she will be handing out envelopes at Monday’s meeting. Also thank you to Mrs. Sullivan for volunteering for cookies and QSP. We look forward to hearing what each of you will be volunteering for this year!
Katherine,
Corianne, Amy and I (Mrs. Davis) had fun at the International Children’s
Festival at Wolftrap last Saturday and earned 6 international hours toward the
Silver Trefoil. We did face painting, mostly flags. This is an easy way to get
hours so remember it for next year. Some girls will be earning more
international hours at the Reston Multicultural Fair this Saturday.
Don’t
forget The Northern VA Bead Society’s show at the Vienna Community Center
Columbus Day weekend 7/8 Oct. Look
at the September 4 newsletter for details. Call Mrs. Irvin immediately to
volunteer.
Now
is the time to get your uniforms for Savannah/Cabana. Don’t wait till the last
minute, find they don’t have your size and have to scramble to find someone
who has one your size to borrow. Our troop is also on file to do sudden service
with GSCNC and uniforms are required for many of these events. Some recent
opportunities involved service on Capitol Hill. With this being election year
there could be some interesting sudden service opportunities.
I
recommend you read Kaleidoscope pages 16 – 18 for a full explanation. There is
no requirement that you must do Program Aide (PA) before Leader in Training
(LIT). They are independent programs that share core training. If you are at all
interested in either program, and haven’t taken the core training yet, look in
TTG and register for the January course at Camp Crowell. You only have to take
the core training once. If you are interested in LIT Mrs. Davis can help you get
the other training.
