Next Meeting Monday September 11

The meetings are BACK to Monday evening at Waples Mill (the upstairs pod like last year). They will start at 7 sharp, so plan to be there a few minutes early) and end at 8:30. The day change not only accommodates those that had conflicts with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but also puts it on a day when homework shouldn’t be a problem. I hope Monday is okay but from the people I heard from it was the best choice.

NOW THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING AND EVERY SCOUT AND AT LEAST ONE ADULT SHOULD ATTEND.

We will be going over the Gold Award notebooks that will be distributed to each girl. This discussion and the notebook should alleviate some of the confusion that surrounded the Silver award. We will also discuss the plans already in place for this year, trips, fundraisers and any other plans that need to be made. Bring fundraising ideas.

Please bring Kaleidoscope which will be needed for the Gold Award and review of the other Senior recognitions.

New Website

Note the new website at the top of the page. To cut down on paperwork, leader’s time and cost of printing we hope that everyone can log onto the web site. The plan is to have the newsletter posted by Saturday morning prior to each meeting. Then everyone will also be better prepared for the meeting.

Planning for Cadette Career Fair

I know you marked September 16 on your calendars as a planning meeting (see June 14 newsletter). This meeting is MANDATORY for anyone wanting to earn this pin with the troop. We will be working with another Senior troop on this project. The permission slip is attached but here are the details:

Saturday, September 16, 2000 from 6 – 10:00 p.m.

Pender Methodist Church

Bring: paper, pencil and Senior handbook

Outdoor Survival Interest Patch

Also on the June 14 calendar was the TOGA encampment at Camp May Flather. The program will lead to the completion of the Outdoor Survival Interest Patch. For those who are in marching band and must attend the Friday night game, they can join the group by 9:00 am Saturday and not miss a thing. The group should be home by lunch time (12 or 1) on Sunday. The permission slip is attached and it must be returned, along with the $17.00 fee, at the September 11 meeting. The organizers have a GREAT program planned.

Troop Dues

The dues will remain at $25.00. Please pay at the September 11 meeting. For convenience, you can pay for everything that is due this meeting (dues, encampment, Savannah, etc) with one check just attach a note with a summary of what you are paying for. I have to itemize money.

Individual Accounts

This summer I transferred all the troop account data to QuickBooks so the full spreadsheet summary for the last two years is shown separately in the chart.

Fall Fundraiser

There will be a fundraiser on October 6 from 7 – 9 (but we will need some girls to come early for set-up and some to stay late for clean-up) at Crossfield Elementary School. The Fries’ and Tatariw’s are putting it together. This is no longer Bingo Night since GSCNC says we can’t charge money to play Bingo or it is considered gambling. Right now we are hoping that they will approve an Ice Cream Social with games or door prizes. Girls who helped solicit prizes August 26 have already earned some money from the profits.

Yard Sale Fundraiser

We will be joining Service Unit 50-10 for a Yard Sale at Dairy Lou Pool in Franklin Farms on Saturday, October 21 from 8 - noon.  This was a very good money maker for past participants. Let Suzanne Tatariw know by the September 11 meeting if you WILL/WILL NOT participate. Also needed is a parent who can be there the whole time to take charge of the money or we will not be able to participate.

Savannah

The final payment is due September 11. At the September 11 meeting Suzanne Tatariw will discuss how much money the girls should bring for meals and souvenirs.

As part of the trip the girls are required to do a service project. If you did a dress over the summer to wear at the dinner and then donate to the Juliette Low House. However, the rest of the girls will be making sachets. We will do these as a group (or they can be done individually) at a time still to be determined.

A Night with Juliette Low

Troop 2568 is sponsoring “A Night with Juliette Low” on Monday, September 18 from 6:15 – 7:45 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church (Herndon). The guest speaker, Mrs. Lois Seimer, tours the U.S. and comes in costume as Juliette Low. The cost is $5.00 per person. The fee and attached permission slip are due by September 11. Girls going to Savannah are highly encouraged to attend.

Leadership/Service Hours Opportunity

Service Unit 50-8 is looking for older girls to babysit or coordinate babysitters at their monthly Service Unit meetings (held the second Tuesday of the month at Vale Methodist Church in Oakton). These hours could be used for the leadership pin or Item 4 of the Challenge. If you are interested call Mrs. Teri Petruzzi at 703 834-6671 or email teri@generalmicro.com.

Service Hour Opportunities in Reston

I have attached a copy of an email I received with some excellent service opportunities. The Multicultural Festival can count as international hours for the Silver Trefoil. The Festival is being set up much like Thinking Day where the children go to one of 7 areas (continents), do an activity, get a passport stamp and move on.

Our Cabana

The first deposit will be due (our best guess from troops that have gone before us) the end of November/beginning of December. There will be a lot of preparation time needed so quite a few meetings in the spring will be devoted to the trip. The girls will get individual notebooks to keep track of all the paperwork. More details soon.
