Joseph's Birth Story
On September 16, 2002 I went for my Pre-Op appointment where I had blood drawn and the questions ask about if I wanted an Epi. or to be put asleep, exc. I decided after a lot of heart searching to be put completely under and my mom would go in with me to video tape the birth. (She was able to come in, because she works in the Operating Room where I had the baby.)
I checked into the hospital at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 and was taken up to my room where the nurse came in and explained what would happen. My C-section wasn't scheduled until 11:30 a.m. so I had quite a bit of time to kill. We went over some papers I had to sign concerning the care of the baby once he was born and then she started prepping me for surgery. First she shaved my tummy, where the doctor would cut and then I had the enema done and had the catheter placed. (Which hurt so bad, because I had a severe yeast infection.) While I waited for my time to be taken down to surgery, I read over the books that the nurse gave me and waited for my family to arrive at the hospital. At 11:30 the Operating Room Tech came up and got me and took me down to surgery, where I talked to the Anaesthesiologist and then I was rolled into the Operating Room to get the ball rolling! The last thing I remember was not being able to breathe. (I panicked bad!) I woke up in recovery and my mom was with me. She told me that the baby was doing good and he weighed 7 pounds, ½ ounce, & was 19¼ inches long! (They only estimated him weighing between 5 and 6 pounds!) My baby entered the world at 11:54 a.m. screaming bloody murder!

I was brought back upstairs about 1:15 p.m. (I remember checking out the clock once I got to my room.) after stopping in the nursery to get a look at my boy. He looked up at me with those big blue eyes and I knew my heart was walking outside of me now. It was amazing!
Joseph was finally brought to me around 5:30 p.m. and he stayed with me pretty much the entire hospital stay! We had a few rough bouts however. I having a lot of bleeding from my C-section and the yeast infection and Joseph having to be circumsized and not having enough vaseline and the gauze having to be ripped off during a diaper change. But Friday, September 20, 2002...3 days after he was born, we got to come home!
