When I Model Myself

by Catharine Basson

When I model myself I think of you,
A mother who leans on Jesus' grace,
Earnestly seeking what is true.

Though some years gleaned barely a trace
Of Christian faith in our lives,
You continue to keep me in His place.

Willing to put honor before personal strife,
Your example of determination ensures
Generational heritage passes on through life.

When my daughters stretch thin my nerves
I recall to myself how my Mom endures.
Again toward them my heart's beat swerves.

When given a model of what life can be,
I am so blessed God gave you to me.
