Thanksgiving at our home is a big affair. That is the day we gather around the table and it is okay to eat to much! *lol* It is a tradition that I do the cooking. My mother arrives early in the morning (usually way to early! *jk*) and we start the cooking. I normally have the ham and the hen all ready prepared so all we have to do is the side dishes. We prefer hen instead of turkey because the meat is not near as dry.

I love the smell that the kitchen has from all the dishes that we are cooking. Nothing smells better than the spices from the pies!

The side dishes that we are planning to cook this year are

• potato salad
• string beans
• turnip greens
• deviled eggs
• yams
• fried onions and apples (recipe on my cooking page)
• cheesy potato bake (recipe on my cooking page)
• fried corn
• cranberry sauce
• dressing
• gravy
• vegetable casserole

We plan on having Raw Apple Cake and of course Pumpkin Pie for dessert. We will either have biscuits or I will make yeast rolls. Beverages include coffee, sweet tea or spiced cider. Needless to say, there will plenty of food for everyone.

Most of the men in my family are avid hunters. Thanksgiving is a day for them to get together in the woods and do the manly things! *lol* I do not demand that they come in to eat but usually between noon and 2pm there is some cousin, husband, father or brother dropping in for a "little" snack. Hey, the more the merrier!! Why not drop by and have a bite to eat also. We would love to break bread with you also!
