Baking Soda to the Rescue
- Sprinkle some on a carpet to deodorize it. Let sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum.
- Use it to de-ice driveways and walkways in winter. Unlike salt, it won't damage floors when tracked inside, and it doesn't harm shoe soles or ground cover.
- Remove tea & coffee stains from china, plastic cups and laminate countertops by sprinkling some on and then rubbing with a damp sponge.
- Keep patio furniture fresh during the off-season by sprinkling it into storage bags or covers.
- Mix with warm water (4 tbsp. per qt.) and use to remove scuff marks on painted walls and laminated surfaces. Apply with a sponge; wipe of with a clean, dry cloth.
- To remove burnt-on food from a pan, fill with a few inches of water and 1 tbsp. of baking soda. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, let stand 30 minutes, then scrub.
