June Picnic
The annual picnic was held on Saturday, June 7th at
the Lasser’s home. Thanks to
Tom and Daphne for hosting the picnic and to Merv for taking on the role of
head chef at the grill.
Election of club officers were held during the picnic and
the following positions were filled:
President – Wayne Thornton
Vice President – Ron Ulmer
Treasure – Tom Lasser
Workshop Chairman – Linda Garthaffner
Program Chairman – Fran Hazelwood (tentative)
Carving Competition Chairman – Merv Warner
July Meeting
The July meeting will be an open carving meeting. During the carving
meeting all carvers (novice to expert) are invited to bring in their latest
carving project to work on during this time. If you are just beginning to carve, or
would like to learn more about wood carving, please join us and learn from our
“resident experts”.
Open carving will run from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm.
If you have ideas for program
topics or know someone that may be willing to make a presentation, please let
one of the officers know.
After attending Monday meetings
and Thursday carving sessions please help to return all tables and chairs to
their proper storage location. This
will be a big help to those who are usually the last ones to leave. Thanks.
July Saturday Workshop
The July workshop will be held on the 19th at Linda
Garthaffner’s house. The project will be a woodburning and the
workshop will begin at 9:15 am. Be
sure to bring a bag lunch and your wood burner. Please signup during Thursday carving or
at the monthly meeting to attend.
Thanks to Linda Garthaffner and
Fran Hazelwood for preparing for and conducting the June relief carving
workshop on short notice. They both
did an excellent job.
(Workshops are held on the 3rd
Saturday of the month at the Bon Air Library beginning at 10:00 am unless
otherwise noted.)
New Members
We are trying to publicize the
availability of JRWC to existing and new carvers. One idea we are working on is the
creation of a club flier or card that can be handed out at events or left in
select locations for anyone interested to pick up. If you have any ideas on how to promote
membership in the club, please contact Wayne Thornton, Ron Ulmer, Merv Warner
or Tom Lasser.
Nametags
Please remember to wear you
nametags at all club functions.
This will help new members and those with poor memories like me get to
know each other better.
Membership
Dues
Annual membership dues will remain
at $10.00 again in 2008. Dues can
be given to Tom Lasser or Ron Ulmer.
They can also be mailed to Tom at 14008 Blunts Bridge Road, Ashland, VA
23005. We currently have 59 paid
and “lifetime” members.
Staying current with your dues
ensures that you will continue to receive the newsletter by mail or email. To receive the newsletter by email be
sure and provide me with your current email address. If you receive the newsletter by US mail
and have an email address that the newsletter can be sent to, please send me
your email address. This helps save
postage and printing expenses.
