What is it with this place and everyone screaming "racism" or "that's sexist"? Again I ask of all of you to not see anyone as just someone who is white, black, Asian, male, female, thing, it, QMD/Laundry troll but just a CADET. How hard is that to grasp? One of our most famous alums' is a man who stood for that, what do you think he would say?
If we're so goddamn sexist and racist then why don't we just solve the problem by isolating every group into their own section of barracks. Or, better yet, let's make new barracks for each group. Other groups of people who are just wasting precious oxygen on this planet are those who misinterpret what freedom of speech is and the right to express opinions. Hello? We're AMERICANS, this is AMERICA, we fought for that right and now we want to take that away?
Wow...I feel damn proud to be an American, especially one that might be going someplace overseas to ensure others can have the same views as us. Of course, only the sanctioned and politically correct ones. We can say whatever we want but God-forbid I mentione one negative comment about the cheerleaders or certain cadets or a policy here at VMI. I believe in respect but I also believe in opinion - if someone has a problem with me I have more respect for them saying it than just holding it in because they're a coward and refuse to do so. PEOPLE DIED so we could express these views.
I guess that doesn't matter, I mean we're not citizen-soldiers, right? Cadets in the national guard and armed forces here have reported issues to their respective units becuase their schedule isn't in sync with VMI. A commandant staff member told an airman that he couldn't go to his training he was ordered to go to; this was during exams last year and he submitted a permit to take his exams early so he could go to his unit. That ended well...another colonel called him and promptly put him in his place. Another example would be when cadets here got orders to get ready for deployment; let's take away their cell phones so their squad leaders can't call them, they have to "send a stat" so they can use the 10 phones in barracks to get a hold of their leadership and find out what was going on. Ten phones for how many cadets? Stats that take a year to be delivered?
Then again, this is VMI, we can't have logic. I guess separate but equal is something to be proud of here at VMI as well as breaching all of our heritage and traditions so we can have a little number "1" next to our name on some review for colleges. I guess to be an individual we have to look like every other academy and military school in the nation. In regards to the staff who runs this school I can base my views upon their actions, they could be CMH winners and I'd still feel the same, I don't care what they did before they came here - this isn't the military, and if it was? I bet you they'd be "fragged" by someone by now.
