new COMMUNITY
TEMPLE COGIC
Founded and
build in 1902 by Elder Junius L. Clifton under the name Community Church of God in Christ has won
uncountable souls to the Lord during it's existence. The
pastorate was passed on to Bishop Ted Thomas in 1967, and the church
multiplied and increased in membership. Bishop Thomas
stabilized the structure of the church leadership, and equipped
members with the knowledge defeating the devil & becoming
victorious in their living.
In 2002, New
Community cut the ribbon at the grand opening of our new Christian
Center Complex. Bishop Thomas saw the need of a new sanctuary
due to the growth and expansion of the ministry, so plans were made
to destroy what is now the former sanctuary, move the worship
services to the new Christian Center Complex, & begin building a
new sanctuary.
At the
ground breaking ceremony of the new sanctuary, Bishop Thomas
announced that the new sanctuary would not only stand as the new
sanctuary members and the public, but it also would be the new STATE
TEMPLE. In lieu of this, Bishop said that the church name
would no longer be "New Community COGIC," but rather
"New Community Temple COGIC."
The new
state temple is underway with heavy construction in a race to finish
the building as quickly as possible. The excitement is in the
air as the members and public nearby awaits the grand opening which
is planned to be at the end of 2003. The building is designed
to hold approximately 1600 individuals & the audio environment
is state of the art technology with building acoustics that defy the
rules. The best is yet to come!!! To God be the
glory!!!
