It is through an encounter with God, our Wonderful Counselor that freedom is obtained.
Christ has set us free through His victory over sin and death on the cross. However, appropriating our freedom in Christ through repentence and faith and maintaining our life of freedom in Christ are two different issues. It was for freedom that Christ set us free, but we have been warned not to return to a yoke of slavery or to turn our freedom into an opportunity for the flesh.
" Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Galatians 5:1
"In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will." 2 Timothy 2:25,26
Establishing people free in Christ makes it possible for them to walk by faith according to what God says is true, to live by the power of the Holy Spirit and to not carry out the desires of the flesh.
"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16
If you are not experiencing freedom , it may be because you have not stood firm in the faith or actively taken your place in Christ. It is every Christian's responsibility to do whatever is necessary to maintain a right relationship with God and mankind. Your eternal destiny is not at stake. God will never leave you nor forsake you.
" Let your conversation be without covertousness; and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, " I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. " Hebrews 13:5
