Reunion 2006

"The Picnic (if you call it that)"

Again, in 2001 we awoke to a sunny, warm Saturday in 2001 and had a great picnic with children, dogs (hot dogs to eat and real dogs to play with) and great fellowship. This time, we stood in a picnic shelter at New Market Park and nearly froze. I arrived first, with Sonja Baker Miller not far behind. She drives a pure white car, and mine is black. Any significance there? Well, I'm no devil and she's by her own admission no angel, so we'll chalk it up to coincidence...

Next in was Mike Burner and his family, who generously baked and decorated a "Class of '81" sheet cake. Nice touch, old man! Then Tim Jenkins showed up to regale us with his story of braving the elements at the game the night before. Kemi Gochenour Emmert and husband Buddy showed up to let us know they are contemplating a move to Florida. Having been there several times, I'm not sure I'd do it, but let me tell you, it sure sounded like a good idea at the time! Lynne and Natalie showed up for awhile, as did Mark with a large collection of Subway subs. Bill Jones did make an appearance as well, and it was astonishing that we functioned as well as we did given the "festivities" Friday night.

There was some conversation and banter, but honestly it was so cold we couldn't stay more than an hour. I don't have any pictures; there were some taken, but they haven't been received yet. I imagine we all look like we're in pain anyway. If anything shows up, I'll post them. Otherwise, it's on to the dinner...
