Class: Damask Height: 4-5' Width: 3' Bred:unknown, pre-1600 Description: Double, repeat flowering, pink, fragrant. Also known as Damask bifera, and Four Seasons. Comments: There are apparently two versions of this rose in commerce in the US. In the Fall of 2001, I obtained my first plant from Chamblees and planted it in the shrub bed bordering the Herb Garden. Even when still quite small it was pumping out clustered flowers that seem so large for such a tiny plant. In 2004, the plant had finally put on some size when a neighbor's dog decided it would make a great chew toy! This version was a much lighter pink (top photo.) In the new garden at Turkey Hallow, I planted an Autumn Damask from Pickering. It is a much darker color, like the Apothecary Rose. Still very fragrant. So far it has been a better grower and has produced lots of flowers even in its first season. | ||
