Class: Species Rose, Rosa roxburghii plena Height: 6' Width: 5' Description: Medium pink, very double. The prickled bud and hips resemble a chestnut. Comments: I purchased this rose as an own root plant in Fall of 2001 and planted it in the border along the Herb Garden. The foliage adds a fine, ferny texture to the garden that is very unique for a rose. The bark on the stems peels, adding further garden interest. I purchased this rose after falling in love with it at Tufton Farm, home of the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants and the Leonie Bell Noisette Garden (associated with Monticello.) The plant at Tufton is an enourmous mound -- about 7 feet in every direction.
