Tyler got back shortly after AJ and Nick had left and she brought in the groceries. Kevin was sitting on the couch where she’d left him but looking mighty pleased with himself about something.
Tyler had seen AJ and Nick and with Kevin’s happy look, she knew he was up to something. She said, "I would have sworn I saw Nick’s car a few minutes ago."
"Baby, don’t be silly. They’re in Orlando, three hours away. Did you get everything?"
"Of course! I sure could use Nick’s help right now. Too bad it wasn’t him."
"I’ll put the stuff away while you get the rest of the stuff in."
"No, stay put. It’s my turn to take care of you, ‘Boo’. You’ve been taking care of me for the last two months. It’s my turn now."
Kevin caught her hand as she walked by. "Come here, baby," said Kevin as he pulled her to him.
Tyler lay down on top of Kevin being careful not to hurt him. "What’s
up, ‘Boo’?"
Kevin brushed her hair back. "I just wanted to tell you how amazing you
are. You handled yourself really well today with that whole scene with
Joey."
"No, I didn’t," said Tyler as she rested her head on his chest. "I’m so tired of the tears and the roller coaster ride that Joey’s got me on. I never know how he’s going to act."
"It’s almost over, baby. Go on and get the stuff in. We need to talk."
Tyler kissed him and went to get the rest of the groceries. She put them away quickly and then decided to fix dinner. Kevin was asleep now and she didn’t want to wake him. She knew his knee was bothering him.
It took Tyler about an hour to fix dinner and when it was almost done, she went to wake Kevin. Rather than making him get up, she served him his dinner where he was and joined him. They ate dinner in silence.
Afterwards, Tyler cleaned up and then went to join Kevin on the couch. He put his arms around her and she rested her head on his shoulder as she put her hand on his stomach.
"You said we needed to talk. What’s up?"
"I need to tell you something and I really don’t want to."
"Does it have to do with why AJ and Nick were here or your conversation with Jeff this morning or the reason we’re here?"
Kevin laughed, "Why do you say Nick and AJ were here?"
"Because when I said I thought I’d seen Nick’s car, you said, ‘They were in Orlando’. Plus, I passed them at the stop light."
"Busted! Yes, it has to do with all three things! Baby, I’d planned to take you to Italy for our honeymoon but I talked to Jeff this morning and our schedule isn’t going to allow for us to do that. In fact, we probably won’t get much of a honeymoon at all."
"Kevin, it doesn’t matter whether we have a honeymoon or not, as long as we’re together."
"But you’ve been looking forward to this and trying SO HARD to find out where we were going."
"Who said I was trying to find out?"
"I’ve overheard you talking to Linda and Christine," said Kevin.
"Busted!" laughed Tyler. "I’ve known for the last week what your schedule was like. I knew there was no way we could do much with the Kid’s Choice Awards the week after the wedding and then the filming of the new video. There’s also your trip to DC on Monday and all the other appearances you guys are scheduled to make. I’m just glad that we’ll have time to get married."
"You aren’t upset?"
"I won’t lie to you, I’m disappointed but as long as we’re together, that’s all that matters. I love you and whether we have a honeymoon or not isn’t going to change that."
Kevin lifted her chin to kiss her. "I have an idea."
"Oh no! I’m in trouble," teased Tyler.
"Ah ha ha!" said Kevin as he crinkled his nose. "Why don’t we go back to the house in Kentucky after the wedding and spend the time we do have fixing up a nursery for the baby and getting the things we’re going to need for him. Then, after the baby is born and we’re done with the tour, I’ll take you to Italy."
"What about the baby?"
"We can take him with us or ask my mom to keep him."
"Or Mami. Sounds wonderful, ‘Boo’. One question though. When we’re not on tour or you aren’t recording, where are we going to live?"
"I hadn’t really given it much thought. What do you want to do?"
"I assumed we’d be in Kentucky but we’ll still need a place in Orlando for when you’re recording."
"We’ve got the house now."
"Brian and Sonja aren’t going to want to share the house once the baby is here. Howie has mentioned buying a condo in Coco Beach for him and Kryss. Maybe we could buy his half of the house."
Kevin thought about it, then said, "How about we get a place of our own that WE pick out together?"
"Sounds good."
"Now, my beautiful lady. I have a surprise for you."
"What kind of surprise?"
"It’s why Nick and AJ were here. They were helping me. Go in the guest bathroom over there," said Kevin pointing to the bathroom off the living room. "There’s something in there for you to put on. Then wait for me to call you."
Tyler went to the bathroom like Kevin asked and found the white gown that AJ had put in there for her. As she was changing, she heard Kevin moving around and then the music start.
When she came out, Kevin wasn’t in the room but she heard the thumping of his crutches in Jeff’s room. Then she heard a crash and Kevin cuss. "Kevin, are you okay?" called Tyler.
"Yeah. I’m fine. Give me a couple more minutes, baby," called Kevin.
"What are you doing?"
"Just be patient."
Tyler laughed and went to sit down. The music that was playing was a tape of love songs that they had picked out together and Kevin had recorded in his studio. There was a wide variety of stuff from Alabama to the Eagles to Elton John. Of course, there was also some of the guys’ songs too.
"Okay, baby, come on back."
Tyler went back to find the room lit with candles, hundreds of candles, and flowers everywhere. There were tons of pillows on the floor in front of the fireplace that was going. Kevin was wearing his white lounging pants and lying on the floor in front of the fireplace.
Kevin smiled, "Hey baby. Come over here."
Tyler moved to him and lay beside him on the pillows. She looked at the bruises that were very visible now on his arms and his torso touching them gently. "Do they hurt?"
