Part 2
The rain pounded against the windshield making it near impossible for AJ to see where he was going. To make matters worse, power had obviously been knocked off because there were no street lights and no traffic lights. The only thing going for him at this point was the fact that the streets of Orlando were deserted at this hour of the night. His 15 minute drive to the hospital emergency room had become a thirty minute journey.
“No damn wonder I moved to LA!” he mumbled. “I fucking hate thunderstorms.”
Never expecting the drive to be this long, having the girl start to come around was the last thing AJ had planned for but she did. Looking around, panic set in and she struggled to get away from him.
Afraid she’d jump out while he was moving, AJ pulled over and lunged for the door as she tried to open it. “DON’T!! Please….I’m not gonna hurt you!! I’m taking you to the hospital…to make sure you’re okay.”
The girl sat pressed against the door, fear in her eyes but she never made a sound.
Convinced she wasn’t going to jump out, AJ sat back. “I’m AJ,” he introduced himself expecting her to do the same but he was met with panicked silence. She even seemed to shrink into his jacket. “I need to know what to call you.”
She tucked her head pulling his jacket tighter as she began to shiver.
Seeing she was cold, AJ reached to cut the heat on which sent her even closer to the door. “It’s okay,” he soothed slowing his movement. “I’m just cutting on the heat for you.”
She touched his jacket pulling it even tighter.
“You know…that’s mine. I wrapped it around you in the park.” He hoped this would gain ground with her.
She looked up into his eyes and seemed to relax but not a sound came from her and the fear was still very present.
AJ watched her, intrigued by what he saw. Who was this woman? What had happened to her to drive her out on a night like this? Why had he been the one to find her? What had her so scared? He had to know her story. Convinced that she trusted him enough not to jump out of the car, he put the car in gear and headed on through the dark night.
