Part 20
Shadows danced around the room as the sun began to set. Stormy was somewhere between sleep and wakefulness when she heard AJ’s cell phone ringing. Struggling to make sense of what was happening, she reached for the irritant that was on the table beside her.
"Hello?"
There was a long pause before a female voice said, "I’m sorry, I must have the wrong number," and the line went dead.
Not thinking anything of it, she turned the phone off and placed it back on the table. She was keenly aware of AJ’s warm presence as she settled back and she couldn’t help but smile.
As she pulled his arms a little tighter, he grumbled, "Who was that?"
"Wrong number," she said as the phone began to ring again and vibrate on the table. "You get it this time."
Hearing it, AJ reached across her giving her a kiss as he blindly searched for the phone. "Yo! Whad up?"
Stormy giggled and he gave her a wink as the voice on the other end demanded, "Who just answered your phone?"
Fire flew through AJ hearing the voice as his smile turned to a scowl. "None of your fucking business. What do you want?"
Stormy knew this wasn’t good as his grip on her tightened. Who in the world could make him this angry?
"I called to find out when you were coming home. You were supposed to be back last week."
"I AM home. I’ll be out there next week to get my things. You can have the house and the dogs."
"You’re leaving me?"
Tiredly, AJ said, "We’ve BEEN over, Sarah. You made THAT clear when you broke the engagement. Don’t make this any harder than it already is."
Sarah….AJ had told her all about his relationship with her and Denise had made it abundantly clear that she did NOT like her either.
"But ‘Poopy’…"
"Don’t!! Just DON’T!!"
"I love you!"
"No, you don’t and you never have. You love my name, what I can do for you. If you loved me, you wouldn’t constantly call me a loser. It’s time to move on."
"And I take it you’ve moved on to the bitch who answered the phone?"
"You don’t know her so I’d appreciate you not calling her names and yes, I am dating her," replied AJ as he looked at Stormy lying beside him in his arms. He could see the concern in her eyes and it had a calming effect on him. Pulling her closer, he pressed a kiss to her forehead and whispered, "I’m okay."
"I suppose you think you love her," sniped Sarah.
"Not that it’s any of your business, but yeah, I do." Hearing his call-waiting beep, he said, "I’ve gotta go. I’ll get my things next week and sign the papers for the house to be legally yours." Before she could protest, AJ pushed the button to take the other call. "Hello?’
It was Denise calling to invite the two to dinner that night and AJ quickly accepted. He hadn’t had time to tell her about Stormy and now he could surprise her with the news. His mother had become extremely fond of her over the week.
All conversations ended, AJ tossed the phone back on the table as Stormy asked, "I take it the wrong number was Sarah?"
"Uh huh," answered AJ placing kisses along her neck trying to distract her.
"I take it she’s not happy?"
"Nope," he mumbled as he ran his tongue along the path from her ear to her neck.
The warmth of his hand on her stomach and the feel of his kisses were working on her as she forgot completely about the phone call. "Al…ex," she whined.
"What, baby?" whispered AJ as he grasped her earlobe between his teeth and sucked hungrily.
"This…" but she stopped as his fingers slipped under her shirt and caressed the skin just above the waistband of her jeans.
"Does it feel good, baby?" growled AJ.
"Oh…god…yes!" she moaned.
Putting his whole hand on her stomach, he caressed her skin tenderly. At the same time, he took possession of her lips, his tongue arresting hers in a soulful kiss and his leg rubbed against hers applying just enough weight for her to know that he wanted her.
Pulling back, he looked into her eyes and knew he had her but he said tenderly, “We need to get ready. That was Mama and she wants us to come to dinner.”
He’d stolen her breath in the kiss and she struggled to simply say, “Okay.”
Letting her get up first, AJ held on to her hands as they went upstairs together. As they went, he said, “You know…it’s gonna be warm tonight. You could model one of those new suits when we get home and we could take a night swim.”
“Sounds good. So when do I get to see what you bought?”
“I didn’t buy anything,” said AJ flatly while on the inside, he was about to bust.
Stormy stopped and moved to the step above him. Eye to eye, she saw the twinkle. “Okay…play it that way. I can be patient.”
“Good…because you’re not getting it any time soon,” shot AJ with a smirk. “What ‘cha gonna wear?”
As they continued on to the bedroom, Stormy tried to decide what to wear to Denise’s and ended up letting AJ pick something out for her. Dressed and ready to go, the two headed to dinner and an interesting evening with AJ’s mom and boyfriend.
