Tommie's Woodturning Tip #2 Making an Indexing Jig





Above is a bowl I just completed out of a beech log. I used a router with a 3/8" core box bit to cut the notches on the outside rim of the bowl. To do this I needed to make a special indexing jig for the router and lathe.



Out of a 3/4" thick circle of MDF, I mounted my Oneway Chuck as shown in the next two pictures. Click on the picture for an enlarged view.





I mounted a sliding bolt latch to the head stock on my lathe as shown. Where it aligned with the MDF, I scribed a bolt circle which I divided up in 24 incriments and drilled to accept the sliding bolt.




I made the table to hold the router out of MDF as shown on a 3/4" dowel to mount in the tool holder.
