SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER ~ At VICTORIA CHRISTIAN CHURCH ~ TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2010 BETWEEN 5 AND 7 PM ~ LOVE OFFERING TO BENEFIT MADELINE’S HOUSE, THE SOUTHSIDE SHELTER FOR ABUSED WOMEN AND CHILDREN
“Shrove Tuesday,” also known as “Mardi Gras” (translated “Fat Tuesday”), is the day before “Ash Wednesday” on which the pre-Easter season of Lent begins. Because Lent is considered a time of self-denial in the Christian world, tradition goes that on “Fat Tuesday” households should use up the fattening ingredients in their cupboards in preparation for Lent. Serving pancakes is the way in which this was often done.

ASH WEDNESDAY ~ Our sanctuary will be open on FEBRUARY 17, 2010...from 1:00 – 4:00 PM ~ for personal prayer and meditation. Victoria Christian Church at 2100 Lee Avenue at Nottoway Boulevard (Rt.49), Victoria, VA

LENT SEASON begins on Feb. 21st ~"PENNIES from HEAVEN" ~ LCM OFFERING CHALLENGE ~ Lent 2010
“DO YOU GIVE 2 CENTS ABOUT HUNGER??”
That’s the question Lunenburg County Ministries (LCM) asks church members in county during its annual “Pennies from Heaven” offering challenge.
The challenge is simple:
·~ Create an offering bank that will sit on the table where you eat most often. Banks can be made from coffee cans, peanut butter jars, or other common household containers.
·~ Gather loose change from around your house and car.
·~ Put in at least 2 cents each meal (per household member) as you bless the food.
·~ Pray that God would use our simple gifts and the gifts of others to feed those in need.
·~ Bring your bank to church on Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday. Your church will pass it on to LCM, where 100% of it will be sent to local food ministries.
Over the 40 days of Lent, the change collected in each home might not add up to much. But in the last two years, churches across the county raised more than $3,000 to help the hungry in our area! You probably won’t miss it, but your spare change can make all the difference in the lives of some of your neighbors!
