An interesting thing about life, that everyone you meet has the same power as yourself. Not the same abilities, not the same control, but the same power. The power of opinion, the power of ideals, morals, and most importantly, the power of action; we each have this. And no one has it any less than anyone else. The problem is, not all of us respect this power. Or if we do, not many of us are wise enough to know how to use it.
The result: many many shamed people, and much pain in their lives. All because of the power of other people who don’t understand it.
I myself have had numerous run-ins with people who know of their power, but do not understand it or respect it. Always, they have hated me; although if the hate is because I truly am a bad person or if it stems from jealousy, I cannot know. I prefer to believe the latter.
Many different solutions to this problem have been attempted over the years. Oppression is one that comes to mind, since it is something that most people seem to think is wrong. America during the Cold War is a good example of the mistakes that can be made while trying to control this power. Gandhi is a perfect example of how much this power can mean. But there are not enough Gandhi’s in this world to make the use of this power something that should belong to everyone. And yet, that is precisely the kind of world we live in; a world where too many people use their power to gain control over other people. A world that was made, or evolved, for reasons still unknown; it is a world of hope.
Love is the great pacifier in our lives. It gives us reason to learn to control our power, so we do not hurt those we love. It is only the ignorant person, the one who is selfish and evil at heart, who does not learn to control their power for those they might love. These are the worst people of all; the people who use another’s love for selfish reasons.
We in America seem to be the most convoluted of societies in trying to regulate the power of the individual. Someone can say almost anything that comes to mind, and it is protected by the constitution. It could be something hateful, or something wonderful, and it has the same protection. If it is wonderful, then no one raises a fuss. If it is hateful, we are supposed to think that everyone is entitled to their opinions.
I think, that for those who are selfish and abuse their power, there should be no compromise. The only problem is in finding a person who is truly an altruist, and willing to mete out justice to those who truly abuse their power. The problem, is finding…
