Who among the general population has ever felt any responsibility? Most of us, I would hope, although there are undeniably those who always blame other people for things they do. But who among us have ever had other people’s lives riding on their actions, their ability, and their decisions? Not very many.
Humans have an interesting perspective on life in the 21st Century. We seem to have figured out how to actually stay alive, so we seek other ways that we may spar with one another. And it isn’t just about some biological imperative telling our bodies that we need to be a hunter or a gatherer. It’s how we train our minds, sharpen our intellects and even, reach our genius.
But here’s the problem. Nothing is as biologically important as staying alive. So our genius dims, our intellect dies, in times where we do not feel a threat to our well being. It is only every few generations that we, as a society, give birth to true genius. And those few are welcomed, recognized, and honored because they have the chance to let their abilities shine through their accomplishments. The ones that are not born in times of trial fade to the background, and never become everything that they possibly could.
If you ask for proof of this, you only need to look around. A few hundred years ago, children 5 and 6 years of age were being put to work on the family farms here in America. Even as little as an even century ago, things were different. Children were pushed harder, had to learn different lessons than we have. Life on a farm was harsh, as we have all been taught. So how did these little kids survive without Nintendo, without much time to play at all? Why do children now think it is the end of the world if they are told to go play outside instead being allowed to sit in front of a blinking screen? Why is America falling from power?
The reason is simple. America was a land of harshness, of forging of the new and experimental in the previous centuries, long after Europe was domesticated and tamed. America’s prominence was a forgone conclusion. We were a society that had been forced to sharpen our minds from a very young age. Now, at a time where everything has finally slowed down, where we have achieved a situation of “predictable” in our everyday lives, our shine is waning.
Who then will come into the fore? Granted, Europe is now the center hub of the economy, but that is only an afterthought. Things have stagnated over there as much as here, only they have had a little longer to find ways to dig themselves out of their rut. No, the new order will not come from them. Indeed, there is only one place where the new batch of human genius will come from. And thanks to us, we have placed them in a position where there are no longer any impediments to their rise.
We have survived this long by fate and luck. What will become of the great nations of the world, when the one area that has so long been closed off to us forms into the revolution? How many warnings do we have against their rise? And yet, what right does any of us have to say we know what will be the future, to deny them their chance to show what they have learned? Everything is uncertain, but one thing is for sure: if America continues at the rate it has, life will not just be easy for us. Life will mean nothing, because there will be no one of worth to make it mean something.
