Biography: As a mortal boy, Armand then Andrei, lived in the Monastery of the Caves in Kiev, Russia. He worked as an icon painter. In 1497, when he was fifteen, he was kidnapped by the Tatar raiders. He is taken to Constantinople and then is sold to a brothel in Venice. There he is rescued by Marius. Marius takes him home and makes him one of his many apprentices. He is given the name Amadeo which means ‘beloved of God’ by Marius. In 1499, he is wounded in a duel with his ex-lover and Marius makes him into a vampire. Soon after Armand and Marius journey to Kiev. He visits his childhood home and gives money to his family. Armand also visits his father who has turned into a drunk and grieves for his mortal son. He and Marius live together in Venice for a short time. In the same year of Armand’s making, their palazzo is attacked the Roman Coven of the Children of Darkness. Armand thinks Marius had died and he is taken captive of the Coven. However, the leader, Santino saves him from the fire. Armand becomes his disciple. He is given the name Armand. Soon he is sent to be the leader of the Paris Coven and he takes another vampire, Allesandra with him. In 1781, after he meets Lestat and Gabrielle, he burns his Coven and joins several of the surviving members in the Theatre des Vampires along with Lestat’s other fledgling, Nicki. He remained the leader up until 1862 when he met Louis and Claudia. Armand falls desperately in love with Louis and arranges the murder of Claudia. After Louis burns down the Theatre des Vampires, he and Armand become companions. Eventually they drift apart and Armand remains alone until he meets up with Daniel, the reporter boy from Interview With The Vampire in 1972. He loves Daniel and keeps him as his companion and his guide to the mortal world. He creates the Night Island with Daniel. In 1984, a few days before Lestat’s concert in San Francisco, he makes Daniel his only fledgling. Armand is one of the few vampires, left surviving after Akasha’s rampage. In 1995, he comes to New York to persuade Lestat out of going with the Devil. He also attempted suicide by going into the sun. However he survives and is severely burnt. He makes the young Benji and Sybelle his mortal companions. Armand visits Lestat in his chapel and drinks his blood. He is persuaded by David Talbot to tell him his story. Marius makes Benji and Sybelle into vampires, so they could be Armand’s companions.
