John Steinbeck!
Born in Salinas California, February 27th 1902, he wrote many great novels such as:

"Cannery Row"(1945)
"The Pearl"(1947)

"The Winter of Discontent"(1961)
In 1972 John received the Nobel Prize for literature; the accompanying citation praised the social perception and humour of his "realistic and imaginative writings." On December 20th of 1968 he died in New York City.
