Aaliyah became a recording artist when she was 15 years old, recording her first album, Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number. She moved on to work on two movie soundtracks that included "Are You That Somebody" from the motion picture "Dr. Doolittle" and other other tracks from Disney's "Anastacia" and "Next Friday".
After already having established herself as a mega R&B recording star, Aaliyah made her acting debut in the film "Romeo Must Die" alongside actor Jet-Li. The attention she received from that film gave her the role as "Akasha" in Queen of the Damned which was released in 2002 after her tragic demise. Her untimely death on August 25, 2001 in a plane crash that killed her and eight others made it impossible for her role in another project to ever happen. Aaliyah was to star in the sequel to the film "The Matrix". Her role as the character "Zee" was replaced by actress Nona Gaye.
