DVD TUTORIAL - BY SPIRIT UK

for Team Sweden members only

In this tutorial we are going to get the best out of DVD2One, keep the menu and delete

unwanted menu buttons and any extras on disc.

I found through experience that a movie needs to be

compressed to at least 4gb or higher, if possible to retain excellent picture quality.

Here are a few of my tips:-

Movie I used was

ALIEN region 2.

There are 25 files in total and 4 VTS sets as seen to the right:-

Total size of this movie is 6.6gb

As always play the movie in IFOedit and remember the sequence. You could play it in Power DVD too.

For ALIEN the first play is the UK & IRELAND copyright notice followed by the AUSTRALIAN copyright notice.

Next we see a 20TH CENTURY FOX HOME

ENTERTAINMENT logo. Then it boots in to the main menu.

it boots in to the MENU.

You are now presented with the main menu.

When you select PLAY from the menu it boots in to the THX logo and then straight in to the movie.

After the scrolling credits it plays some newly added extra credits that look completely different to the scrolling ones. See below for added credits.

From here it goes in to the main menu again.

So this is the procedure you need to do on every DVD movie so you know exactly what the running order of all the movie sequences are, this will guarantee you a 100% success rate.

As you can see I’ve loaded up VTS_02_1.VOB in to VOBrator and are presented with loads of cells. We are looking for the 20TH CENTURY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT logo, so click on VOB (ID=1) which is CELL 1 and view it using the PLAY button at the bottom of the screen.

In this case the logo we are looking for is in CELL 1 but normally you would have check through every one until you find what you are looking for. Each VOB ID is a movie clip or a blank clip.

We now have to find out which CELL is what and we do this by using a program called VOBrator which shows you what cells are contained in which vob

Pressing PLAY will show you the 20TH FOX logo, there will be no sound during any playback

using VOBrator.

After you've found what you are looking for and you don't need any other cells from this VOB then load up IFOedit and load in VTS_02_0.IFO, now click on the VOB EXTRAS button and make sure the

following settings below are ticked or selected:-

If anything else is ticked then untick it. Now click on OK.

Select your destination, IFOedit will not overwrite, so select a different directory.

In the next section you will see the language screen

giving you numerous options.

I am

English so I select English although is doesn’t really

matter

because there is no audio on the 20TH FOX logo.

Now click on STRIP IT.

The last section gives you the option to choose the VOB ID or CELL ID which ever you prefer, we only want the CELL 1 so tick VOB ID 1 and click on STRIP IT.

After a few

minutes or so (depends on the size of the file) you will have a newly stripped VTS_02_2.VOB with a file size of around 6mb. So from 900mb to 6mb is a big saving.

Now copy and overwrite the original files with the newly

created ones.

I still have VTS sets 3 and 4 that I am never going to use because they contain extras and I don't want any so I just delete them.

In order for DVD2One to work properly you must correct some pointers.

Now load up IFOedit and load in VIDEO_TS.IFO, this file is the complete index for the entire DVD, a lot is done from this file.

This is how the current file structure will look after all the above actions.

We now have only 2 VTS sets but the VIDEO_TS.IFO still has 4 VTS sets in its command lines which must be altered for DVD2One to work.

So lets go...

In IFOedit on the VMG OVERVIEW page (the first screen that appears after loading), check out the NUMBER OF TITLE PLAY MAPS, in ALIEN there are 41 play maps. In each play map there is a VTS set, I am only using VTS sets 1 and 2 because I deleted 3 and 4, so look at all the play maps containing sets 1 and 2 you will find on ALIEN that there are 19 play maps for VTS sets 1 and 2.

Now click on VMG_PTT_SRPT

in the top

directory

structure.

Double click on the NUMBER OF

TITLE PLAY MAPS which at the moment is 41, change this to 19.

Now back to the VMG OVERVIEW, scroll down to the section called NUMBER OF VIDEO TITLE SETS on this DVD. Now click on the VMG_VTS_ATRT in the directory structure.

Double click on NUMBER OF VIDEO TITLE SETS and change it from 4 to 2.

Now SAVE your work. That’s it DVD2One will now recognise the DVD structure and will now compress.

Before I get stuck in to DVD2One, load IFOedit and load in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, now click on the

GET VTS SECTORS button, click YES and OK to correct the newly adjusted pointers.

Now load up DVD2One and select the movie VIDEO_TS directory as the source and then a new

directory for the destination.

I always have my file size set to 4400mb the default setting is 4440 which is the maximum and may cause several writing problems depending on which media you use.

4400mb works with all the media I have tested.

Under COPY MODE select FULL DISK and click on theNEXT button to

continue.

Language selection options, as you can see from the screenshot AC3 6ch English has been ticked this is because I want to keep the 5.1

audio track all the other tracks will either be mono, stereo, directors commentary etc. which I don’t need.

Now click START to compress your movie.

After about 40-120 minutes depending on the movie size and PC spec you have you will finally have a working compressed 4.3gb or smaller movie to record on to DVD-R

First though we will make it multi-region, so load up IFOedit and load in VIDEO_TS.IFO file, click on the REGION FREE button click OK and then OK again to make multi-region and SAVE your work.

Now test it using either PowerDVD or IFOedit, check all the chapters etc.

Now we must alter the MENU buttons, because you removed the extras features if you decide to click on the extras button in the menu the movie will crash, so I need to remove these options.

Load up MENUEDIT and click on OPEN and load in the menu vob. In this case its VTS_01_0.VOB. You will then be presented with a list of VOB ID’s for the menu. If you click on a VOB ID you will see a CELL ID and then information telling you how many buttons there are to that particular page.

Go through each one until you find what you are looking for.

As you can see there are 5 buttons in the first VOB ID and this is also the main menu section.

We only want to keep PLAY MOVIE and CHAPTER SELECTION so that’s buttons 2 and 4.

1,3 and 5 can be removed. So click on the buttons to highlight them and then click on the EDIT button.

Make the above selections, click on HIDE AND UPDATE COMMANDS AS FOLLOWS and then click on KEEP OLD and then click on the >> button.

As you can see above only buttons 2 and 4 are visable the others have their commands removed.

Remember to remove commands and NOT delete the buttons as this can cause problems.

That’s it, You are now ready to burn your movie to DVD-R.

There are many DVD recording software but I tend to use PRASSI PRIMO but RECORD NOW MAX and NERO will do just fine.

We are using PRASSI for this guide.

Boot up PRASSI and click on GO TO FULL APPLICATION if you have the WIZARD still on and then click on the DATA DISC icon.

Create a AUDIO_TS directory too and drag and drop both in to PRASS as seen above. We use

AUDIO_TS for compatibility only as there is never anything in it.

Click on you DVD-R drive letter on the left so that the RED arrow appears.

Make sure you set your speed 1x, 2x or 4x depending on your media, enter a volume label although not necessary.

Select RECORD and then click on RED BUTTON at the top.

That’s it you’re finished.

Enjoy your multi-regioned DVD movie.
