This is just a basic guide
on how to repair that pesky
"12 Open or No EP-L" message.

No need to pay that $15.00 to $45.00 repair parts!

Some things that you will need:

  1. Soldering Iron

  2. Solder

  3. Solder wick or solder sucker (or other skills)

  4. A 10μf 25v (or higher voltage) electrolytic capacitor ($2 at Radio Shack)

  5. Phillips head screw driver

This whole repair shouldn't take you longer then an hour and difficulty of 3/10.

Lets Get Started!

1.    Remove the two screws in the back

2.    Open up the front and remove the two screws

3. There is also a ribbon cable connected to the top cover that runs the LCD. remove that and then you should be able to see the board

4.    That green (maybe a different color for you) thing is the capacitor.  lets get it out of there! Unscrew the two screws.

5.    Make sure to note the negative leg of the capacitor, identified by the blue negative sign.

6.    Not shown is the solder points on the underneath of the board where the capacitor is held on.

Just unsolder those points and take the capacitor off.  make sure to clear the hole so the new capacitor can fit through

Slip it on and solder it back, make sure to note the negative leg

7.    Congrats, you have a working printer again.

reassemble it the same way you took it apart.
