Fourth and Goal - 2/12/09

The First football game of the year has been scheduled for Sunday March 8th, 2009. All the anticipation and excitement will finally come to fruition this spring and lots of questions have been raised. Will the Whitt Brothers dominate as they usually do? An inside source has informed me that Jake Whitt has been working out all winter, getting in top shape. And you can't train crazy, which is what Charlie excels at. When asked of his feelings about St. Charles, he only replied, "Sallies". If you watch old footage of the Whitt brothers in action, you can see an intensity that only few show. Is it in their blood?

Sean Connelly spoke up in an exclusive interview yesterday, which is very uncommon. He addressed his lack of intensity at times. And realizes that people see it in his play. Will this change come March? Connelly's raw talent is well known. But will he actually use all of it? My hunch is we may be in for a new Sean Connelly. His speed is unmatched, and we haven't seen someone nearly as fast since, well, maybe his father. When I asked the very softspoken Connelly who he thought would be his biggest competition. Sean simply replied, the Whitt's. Villa Park' Bash Brothers. This football game is shaping up to be very interesting. I personally can't wait to watch.

Jason Welker hasn't been heard from in some time, he stopped playing in the middle of last year and old maybe it to one or maybe two events. The Cannon armed quarterback is an asset to Villa Park, and with Villa Park's other quarterback, Phil Grollo on the DL. V.P. might be in some trouble. It is my great hope that we might have Jason at this years first game, if only to see the full potentional of this years competition.

Tom Heneghan is Villa Park's big man. Versatile and and a top target amongst quarterbacks. "When you've got a guy who's probably got a foot on every other receiver out there, he's going to be the guy you look for." Phil Grollo said to me in a phone conversation. He's deceptivly quick and can cut about as fast anyone else on the field, he becomes a threat.

But let's not forget Tim Eddie, the man who wears his St. Charles jersey proudly. He's a tenacious defender with big hit qualities. He goes out there and gives his all while keeping a good attitude. He's not out there to be bigger than the game. He just wants to make sure his team wins. He's got a great arm and can be very elusive in the pocket. And sometimes he needs to be when Tim Woltman is on pass defense. Tim woltman, sometimes injury prone, can be a terrific pass rusher and makes you take your focus off your receivers. Woltman is also a valuable Tight End, and great for quick dump off passes for big yards.
