A POEM BY TAWNEE AIKEN

 



I swear that there's somewhere out there someone who waits for me.
But now I cry because found I there's no one here to see!
These lonely walls surround my walls built up for my protection.
Though safe and sound, I've also found they keep me from detection.

With fears I build and tears I guild this fortress of great strength.
And then I hint "I dare you prince, to tear down every plank!"
Though intentioned he to rescue me to save his lady fair,
the more he'd break, the more I'd make, I'd fight him from my lair!

But years go by and tears they dry and life's lessons always learned
You avoid the pyre once tried by fire because you understand "burned."
The battle's fought and wisdom's sought, becoming clear as glass
There comes a day revealed the way through which someone might pass

Reaching far too high up to the sky my walls could not be scaled
Steel and brick and much too thick all efforts to break through failed.
Then to foil my plight, a glimpse of light, why didn't I see it before?
In awe I stare, the answer's there! There's always been a door!

Now opened wide I step outside and feel the breeze and sun
He gallops by with princely eyes, this just might be the one!
The charming prince has caught a glimpse and hastens to my side.
The wait now done, towards the sun, we on his stallion ride!
