Wadjyt

Midi playing: Unnamed

This page is dedicated to the cobra-goddess, Wadjyt. Wadjyt is known by other names, like Udjat, which is also the name of the left eye of Horus, and She is also known as Buto.

Wadjyt, as I said, is a cobra-headed goddess. She was moreso a goddess for royalty, though perhaps just as respected by other cults. Wadjyt, as Buto, is portrayed as somewhat of a wyvern, a serpent {cobra}with wings and a set of talons. Buto wears the red crown of Lower Egypt. She also has large red-feathered wings.

Wadjyt/Buto is also known as the uraeus, or the cobra on Pharoah's crown. Uraeus was thought to spit fire at those who mean harm to Pharaoh in battle.

Wadjyt, as Wadjyt, in Tameress, is a healing goddess. She is a woman with the head and coloration of a cobra. Her healing is moreso in magick and herbalism and she prefers the darker spots. As Buto, she is a protectress. She protects children as well as adults. She, as Buto, can be a vengeful goddess, but is most often quite patient and more of an observer than an action taker, but will do so if she feels it is needed.

As stated before, Wadjyt is one of the three healing goddesses. Bastet is the healer of emotions, Sekhmet a goddess of surgery, and Wadjyt herself in herbal medicines. She is also a goddess of vaccines and, of course, anti-venoms.

Wadjyt is paired with Thoth as a knowledge deity. She, like thoth, believes the strong mind is the key to strong power. Only through reading and study is it possible for people to become one of great potential and power.

There are other cobra deities mentioned in ancient Egypt. Thoth, in one myth, transformed into a cobra, though I can't remember the reason. The god Apep was portrayed as an evil cobra. And there was the gaurdian of the dead, another cobra deity by the name of Mertseger. Her place was usually protecting the bodies of royalty over the other bodies and was thought to be a merciless goddess when harm befell her dead. Perhaps Mertseger is yet another form of Wadjyt/Buto.

I easily forgive myself and others.

I am safe with stillness and silence.

It is easy for me to listen to my wise inner voice.

I give and recieve respect wherever I go.

Truth protects me, forgiveness heals me.

It is safe for me to be honest.

I rethink my intention and reshape my future.

Prayer of the Cobra

D.J. Conway

Lift your head, great sacred serpent,

You who are servant of the Goddess.

Strike fear into the hearts of all prosecuters.

Let those who hate my spiritual path

Be cast down by their own actions.

Prayer of the Snake

D.J. Conway

Coiling, turning, deep knowledge burning,

Sacred serpent, lead me on

To the initiate's fire on planes much higher.

I yearn to grow, O Goddess-one.
