After the War of Wrath, Beleriand sank beneath the sea. However, the new island of Núumenor was raised up and became the realm of the mightiest men of Arda. On Middle-earth, Sauron became the Ring Lord, founded Mordor and made war on the Elves. The Núumenoreans intervened and took Sauron captive, but the Dark Lord persuaded his captors to make war on the Valar. This resulted in the sinking of Núumenor, and the change of the world; the flat earth became a globe and the Undying Lands were sent beyond its spheres.
