In 1995 Philip Segal announced that plans were in development for the return of Doctor Who, but on American Television with the BBC in co-production. After a series of failed attempts, the FOX Network finally accepted a proposal for a one-off Doctor Who movie and pre-production began. Segal hoped that the viewing figures would be so great that more movies or perhaps even a series would be ordered. FOX remained non-committal to anything except a one-shot Tuesday Night Movie. A lot of fans however took this to mean that FOX would begin to produce Doctor Who again. They were sadly mistaken! May 14, 1996 saw the new movie shown with very disappointing ratings. FOX was finished with it and did not order any new movies and no series was planned, they had lived up to their end of the bargan, to the dismay of many loyal fans. It remains to be seen if the BBC or anyone for that matter will ever do any more television projects with Doctor Who.
