The Birth of Miracle
Cries where heard throughout the twilight of the dark mist. Fires kindled on the streets and the maddened sounds of thrown trashcans, objects, shattered glass and thunder filled the burnt air. Felines of all size and color ran out of their homes in the streets like scattered mice shreeking for mercy as larger cats dressed in metal scraps used for armor paraded around hurdleing valuable possesions into the flames and slaughtering all those who were in their way. Fearless toms tried to keep the armored intruders back and away from their loved ones but to no prevail. Kittens were snatched from their mother's loving arms and killed on the spot. A river mixture of blood and rain streamed down the alleys as the horrifying night continued. Slained bodies littered the streets as some mothers mourned over their lost kittens and toms. Den by den they went, barging into their homes and ruining everything. A few dens down the street, a group of felines grew nervous as the armored demons drew closer. A large and strong black and silver tom was in the middle of closing the den secure and setting up barriers as his queen wrapped her kitten in a warm tattered old blanket. A worried and painful look of agony and grief was seen on her face as she feared desperatly for her young one. If they didn't act quickly, her only kitten would surely die. The queen's mistress rush in the back way with a lantern in her paw. Her face was pale and her eyes were dilated in fear. Like all the felines who lived here, the kitten had a black collar around its neck with a silver plate that dangled from it. It was like a round coin with the small symbol of the moon. His mother and family had it too. "They're coming my child!" she cried as she quickly dimmed the lights and closed the drapes. Just then, a thunderous bang was forced upon the front door of the old den along with a bear like yell, "Open up!" The two females gasped in horror. Never had they imagined it would get like this. "Sideon, what do we do?" whispered his queen with a quiver. The banging continued and they knew soon the old wooden door would give way. The hair on Sidion's back rose and his fangs bared as he quickly rushed to place his body against the door. Turing to his queen he growled, "Naomi run!!" Munustrap squeeled in delight over her harmoneous chanting as she continued with a single tear that streamed down her face,
The queen shook her head, "But Sid-"
"I SAID RUN!!!" he replied in a roar, "And take Munkustrap with you!! Hury! Go now!!"
With her little kitten wrapped in her arms, Naomi hesitated but her tom's words were strong so she quickly dashed off using the back exit from the den leaving her beloved tom. She ran as fast as she could down the muggy streets trying to keep back the tears. Her mistress followed closely behind. Naomi then spotted a small pickup truck loaded with thick blankets. Looking around for the armored cats, she slowly approached the sleeping vehicle. As her mistress stayed a ways behind keeping her eyes peeled for them, Naomi slowly and carefully placed her small kitten on the back of the truck, covering it with layers of thick blankets to hide him. The small kitten which resembled Sidion greatly with his silver and black markings, looked up at his mother with large glowing eyes. He knew nothing of the danger around him yet could sense there was something wrong. His large innocent eyes looked up at his mother with concern and wanting nothing but to see the beautiful smile she possessed, he wriggled in the blanket and gave a lighthearted squeek with his bright sparkling eyes, but it quickly faded when he noticed how his mother's face was still gloomy. Naomi couldn't keep it in anymore. She stroked the side of Munkustrap's face and whispered his little lullaby,
"Baby of mine, don't you cry
Baby of mine, by and by
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part
Baby of mine
Baby of mine don't you cry
Baby of mine, by and by"
"Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never to tear
Baby of mine."
and slowly the gray kitten drifted into a sleep just as the truck came to life and began to slowly roll away, farther and farther from Naomi's tender touch. By now rivers of tears fell on the cobbled grounds and she reached out for her loved one as she watched him drift away from her and her life forever.
Days past and the streets of Coradon were destroyed. The bodies were carried off to be dumped in the river and the night's curse was to never be spoken of again. Meanwhile, a few miles away lay a beautiful place just outside the urban city. Few humans came here for there were nothing but trees, boulders, rivers and wildlife. It was very open and wide in which the sun poured its light upon. It was rich in soil and cats roamed the grounds, making ends meat and serving their lord, King Triton. They were ranked in class, the Sheckles being the richest, the Warrens being the middle and the Cragis being the poorest. However, there was another large group who were considered so low that they weren't even a added in the hierchies. They were like untouchables, no one could speak to them, touch them or be near them in any way, shape or form. They were the Jellicles, born to be slaves and destined to die being no more than wretched animals thrown aside with no righteous burial. They were concidered to have come from the dust and so in the end brought back to it. They were small, undernurished, and looked down upon. The worked all day in the blazing sun and throughout the night in the freezing cold. They were fed little and given no place to live. So this was how the empire of King Triton, city of Gabril, thrived.
Here the royal family lived, in a large abandoned four story building, built by humans only to left to rot in the sun. Now, it was transformed into a large castle for king Triton and his family and servants to inhabit. Bethsheba, the glamorous queen of Gabril, was out back in her garden when she spotted out yonder a pile of blankets that were left on the side of a long stretched deserted road. She ventured out there for she noticed how the blankets were moving. There had to be somthing underneath there.
"Momma?" came a small voice from below her. Bethsheba placed a gentle paw over her son's head and replied calmly with tint of stirness in her, "Stay here darling." and she continued on her way towards the mysterious mound of blankets. When near enough, she could hear crying coming from beneath them. Slowly, she lifted a sheet and was shocked to see before her a small silver tabby kitten. His eyes were large, gorgeous though filled with heartbreaking tears and upon seeing her, the kitten paused for a moment only to tremble his lips and go back to his weeping state. Bethsheba looked around wondering where this youngster came from. Unable to resist the young one, she smiled as she lifed him from the hot bundles of blankets and cuddled him her arms. Finding that the kitten was refusing to stop his crying, and being the experienced mother that she was, she sang in a voice that could calm a storm,
"Hush now my baby, be still love don't cry
Sleep now that im singing to you
Here in my arms
You're now safe from all harm
Holding you, I'm smiling too."
At the sound of her soothing voice, the gray tabby kitten ceased its crying and glancing up at Bethsheba with his huge bright eyes, he then squeeled and gurgled. Glad now that he was smiling, she carried him in her arms back to her place as he continued to make his toddler noises. She then noticed how the kitten had a black collar around it's neck revealing the emblom of the moon. She gasped for it was the symbol of the Jellicles. Behind it was his name. Munkustrap. He was a Jellicle and Bethsheba new that King Triton would not approve of having this young Jellicle kitten in his palace. Quickly she removed the collar and placed it in her pocket. Just then, her son approached her and tugged on her satin dress wanting to see what it was that she possessed in her arms. Bethsheba smiled down on her young tom and replied, "It's your new baby brother Macavity. We're going to take good care of him." and she kneeled down so her son could take a look at the young stranger. By now Munkustrap was asleep and Macavity analyized the gray tabby closely with a strange look. Slowly Macavity touched the kitten's head and he awoke gurgling happily at the small red kitten before him. Macavity smiled at him and looked up at his mother. He was going to enjoy having a baby brother to play with.
Years past and he days were hot and dry. Plants began to wither away as the rivers began to dry up. The day was so hot that mostly everyone was inside, escaping the sun's great heat. All except the two tom brothers, Munkustrap and Macavity. The calm sand was still till desturbed by their rampaging. They laughed and shouted insanly as they chased a small rabbit through the city of Gabril. The ran past and through the Jellicles that continued to work in the hot blazing sun, trying to get as much green to grow, pulling roots and serving the higher classes. Macavity and Munkustrap suddenly knocked one down by accident. Unlike Macavity who continued the chase, Munkustrap paused to help the fallen black Jellicle up and gave an apology. Shocked that a feline of a far higher rank them him would actually take the time to help him up, the Jellicle quickly fell on its knees and begged for forgivness for being in the gray tabby's way. Munkustrap frowned for it was he who knocked him over. Just then, Macavity reappeared at his brother's side and glanced at what was happening. With a bewildered look, the red tom asked, "What are you doing Munku?"
"Well we ran into him and-" feeling uncomfortable at how the feline was gruvling at his feet Munkustrap cried with a bit of paranoia in his voice, "why is he doing this?"
Macavity shrugged, "It's a Jellicle, we're not even suppose to be addressing it." and Macavity took his brother's arm gently and motioned away, "Quickly, if father catches us even looking at a this dust moth we may get in trouble. It's best to just let it be." and Munkustrap was led away yet unable to take his eyes off the poor motionless soul that continued to uphold his backbreaking position in the sand.
The years grew short and cold and it was obvious how mother nature changed her gown. Snow littered the grounds and trees stood bare, twisted and naked. Summer was over and winter had made it's sudden appearance over the city of Gabril. By now, Munkustrap and Macavity had outgrown their kitten years and were now in their teens, nicely developed, strong, built and rich. To high classes they were looked upon as fellow friends, to the middle they were seen as royalty and to the poor and unfortunate, they were gods. Today was a special day in the huge empire of King Triton. It was Macavity's birthday and the day that his father would bless him with the prophecy of how he would one day take his place. Macavity sat there as his mother, Bethsheba, who too was growing in her years, prepared him for his big event. A giant plate of tin gold was placed on his chest and a rubied collar adorned his neck. Brass cofflings were wrapped around his rists and ankles and a large belt hung from his waist. He was a sight to behold, young handsom and blessed with fine jeweles from the mines and stirn features. Bethsheba leaned in close to his ear and whispered, "Nervous?" and Macavity stared into the mirror to catch his view of his mother behind him and replied, "It's normal right?"
Bethsheba laughed, "Of course it is son but there's no reason to be. This night is held in your honor. Be proud for what your father is about to give you."
Just then, Munkustrap appeared in the room and was too dressed up with all that his brother had but in silver. Bethsheba smiled as she drew her other son close to her and Macavity, embraced them both and whispered, "I'm so proud of the both of you." and Macavity glanced at Munkustrap with a grin in which Munkustrap returned a pleasing grin of his own. Deciding that it was best for her to leave her boys to themselves, Bethsheba turned to go. Before she left however, she took Munkustrap by the shoulders and whispered, "Keep an eye on him for me. Don't want him to get too cocky." she added with a wink, "I want him to be a good king." and with that she placed a gentle kiss on his forehead. Macavity had heard that and thoughts flooded his mind.
Trumpets blew, banners were held high, felines stood in respect and cheered as King Triton approached his throne from the red carpet. Beside him, arm in arm, was his queen Bethsheba, adorned with jewelry, satin clothing and a lavender see through vale. Then finally closly behind them, the two royal brothers appeared Macavity first then Munkustrap. The crowds bowed and were silent. As King Triton sat on his throne and Bethsheba on hers next to him, the brothers stood before them. In pure silence, King Triton stood and approached his younest son, Munkustrap. After placed firm hands on his shoulder, he kissed his forehead as the gray tabby bowed before him. He then continued to his eldest, Macavity. He first gave him an assuring smile and then the red tom lowered to one knee. His father placed both paws over his head and said, "I King Triton, lord of all Gabril ask the gods of the moon, sun and stars to bless my eldest son, Macavity and grant him all that he desires. May he be wise in all he does and grow in health and power. So now arise Macavity and take you position as future king." and the tom stood and embraced his father as the masses of feline spectators cheered. Munkustrap then approached his older brother and gave him a strong pat on the back in congratulations. Macavity smiled at him and quickly gave his brother a big embrace as well with a few strong pats, then they grasped each other by the shoulders and laughed at their good fortune. This was definetly a night to remember. Just then, King Triton clapped his paws together and all was silent. "In honor of my son, I say, bring forth the gifts!"
All eyes then fell on the collosal entrance doors and they were flung open and in entered a parade of cats from around the kingdom. Some where princes from other great feline cities and others were wealthy travelers and merchants who came to bless the prince with their great gifts. Macavity recieved treasures, fruit, satin, meat and much more. Suddenly the room gasped when the king of Bargos, King Fortbras entered in. He was a rather large orange cat, with enough jewels to decorate a palace and he was also great friends with King Triton for them and their kingdoms were allies in fighting. The two kings greeted each other as King Fortbras said, "My dear friend, in graditude for your friendship and in honor of your son thus future king, I and the city of Bargos grant you this beautiful maiden that I have carefully picked out and supplied for your son as his future queen under the name of Demeter named after the goddess of fruit!" no later had he said that, a young slender female cat was brought into the coradours of the great room with a great tug from one of King Fortbras' guards. She was tied at the wrist and neck and dressed in purple and light blue satin with a vail that covered her face, revealing only her lovely larged eyelashed green eyes painted with a tint of light green eyeshadow. Both Macavity and Munkustrap gasped at this great gift. The feline stood there, scared and refused to look at the royal brothers eye to eye. She stood there tired from a previous struggle and decided not to fight against it anymore. A small pleasing smile appeared on the gray tabby's face and he gave a slight elbow knock at Mac's ribs, indicating for him to approach her. Macavity hesitated, then with a nervous gulp, he slowly walked towards her. He stood there, inches from her body looking down at the glamourous figure that refused to look up at him. Wanting to see the beauty that hid itself under the vail, the red prince slowly lifted it revealing the most beautiful sight he had ever layed eyes upon. Finally, her green emerald eye peered into his though they were filled with sorrow and seemed beg for mercy and freedom.
Ignoring this expression, Macavity stroked the side of her face and quickly the female back away. Agitated that a female dared to step back from his touch, the red tom snatched the rope that bound her wrists together and jerked her back towards her. This instead got her wriled and she struggled against his pull. He jerked and jerked again and the rope around her neck tightened every time he did. She screamed and cried out for mercy but in the heat of the moment Macavity continued his ruthless performance. Suddenly, the captured queen's long slender leg shot out from underneath her and kicked him in the back, sending the royal prince to the ground. She began to run but Munkustrap interferred as he lept and torpedoed into her side, bringing them both to the ground. By now, the queen was crying, realizing that she would never escape as the guards took her from under Munkustrap's body and dragged her away. Slowly, Macavity arose and stood by his brother's side, "Fiesty little flower, isn't she?"
But Munkustrap never answered as he just stared at the departing queen.
