Interview with Bertuzzi!

Q: Where do you see yourself and your career, ten years down the road?
A: I see myself still playing hockey, and I will play until they kick me out of the League!
Q: How does it feel to be a father?
A: It's great. It's a challenge but probably the greatest challenge in the world.
Q: Do you honestly feel the Canucks have a real shot in making the playoffs this year?
A: Of course I think we will. We have everybody back from injury and we have enough heart to do it too.
Q: If hockey was not an option for you, what would you like to be doing instead?
A: I'd like to be a pro golfer.
Q: What was with all the talk between you and Tommy Salo during the game in Edmonton on January 22nd?
A: I was just trying to get him off his game.
Q: What was the hardest adjustment from playing wing to centre?
A: It's different defensive coverage in your own end.
Q: What is your favourite part of Vancouver?
A: It is a great city. We have great people here and it's definitely a hockey town.
Q: Do your teammates have a nickname for you, and if so, what is it?
A: Berty!
Q: What do you think is the hardest thing about playing hockey?
A: The travel schedule, and being away from my family.
Q: Where do you like to go on vacation?
A: My summer home on the golf course back in Kitchener, Ontario.
Q: Who in hockey do you most admire?
A: Wayne Gretzky.
Q: Who in the Canucks do you socialize with?
A: Everybody!
Q: Why did you choose number 44?
A: It is my favourite number and I wore it in Junior hockey.
Q: The last time you played the Dallas Stars at home, the Fox Sportscasters eluded to the fact that you may have some tattoos. Can you enlighten your fans on this?
A: On my one arm I have a cross, the other is barbwire around my bicep and I have a sun on my back. I enjoy the art of tattoos.
Q: You make a successful unit when teamed up with Brash, and you've also been excellent in the lineup with Mess and Naslund. Which one do you prefer and feel more productive in?
A: It doesn't matter - I play the same way with everyone I am teamed up with.
Q: Does it bother you that not enough other Canucks seem to go to the net more?
A: Everybody plays different ways. My size allows me to be more effective to play that way.
Q: Is there any of the New York Islanders that you miss playing with and you would like to play with again?
A: Bryan McCabe.
Q: What do you think about all the hype around the Sedin twins coming next year?
A: We have heard that they can step in right away and be of help.
Q: Are there any other teams that you wouldn't mind playing for?
A: I'm happy where I am!
Q: How do you feel after so many seasons with Bryan McCabe not to be playing with him but against him?
A: It is the bad part of the game. Things like that happen but we are still good friends.
Q: Specialty roles have been detrimental to the Canucks this year. In recent games I have seen the penalty killers allow cross rink passes resulting in goals. How could you as a team cut off these passes?
A: By playing a little tighter in the neutral zone.
Q: Where did you first play Junior and how old were you?
A: I played for the Guelph Storm and I was 15 years old.
Q: How old were you when you got into your first hockey fight?
A: 15 years old!
Q: How many teeth are you missing?
A: Five of my favourite ones!
Q: There seems to be stellar days when nothing goes wrong, then there are days where nothing can go right. What do you think needs to happen in order to get everyone working hard and pulling their weight?
A: It is tough for us to lose, but what fans may not see is how hard and how much we try to put in to our games. All our fans really see are the wins and the losses.
Q: What are your thoughts on the rookies - do you think they have been progressing well?
A: Yes, they have all played very well this year.
Q: What do you do in the off-season?
A: I like to golf, and I prepare for the next hockey season.
Q: Do you hang out with your teammates outside of hockey?
A: Yes, I live near guys back home in Ontario.
Q: What type of fluids do you drink while playing a game?
A: Water and Powerade.
Q: Which place do you like to play the most, Vancouver or New York?
A: That's easy - Vancouver! I had a tough time in New York so I was pleased to come here.
