The pools of water spread, still running with electricity. Cybersix ran to Data 7 to avoid the electricuted water.
She watched as they snaked towards layers of carefully folded, and very flammable, pieces of clothing. They caught on fire. Cybersix carefully kicked them onto the monster. They were only little flames, compared to the beast...but they were enough.
"NOOOOOO!" howled Jose, as he watched his father's beautiful creation on fire. Cybersix was grinning up at the strange woman in black, who was looking down at what was left of the monster. Even Data 7 was smiling. They were going to leave soon; Jose was going to fail, once again.
"I will tolerate no more failures. Is that understood, Jose? NO MORE FAILURES!"
"I can't face Father... not after this... I won't let Cybersix escape..I can't!" Jose's usual childish tantrum had desperation twisted into it. Frantically, he grabbed a Fixed Idea's gun. He panted, vision blurred and sweat forming.
"I can't let her escape... I can't!"
He aimed the gun wildly, his trigger finger trembling. Blindly, he searched for the wretched Cybersix.. but there she was, still standing on the railing.
"YOU'RE NOT WALKING OUT OF HERE ALIVE, CYBERSIX!"
Jose cackled crazily. Kayla, though her back was still turned from the psychotic child, began reaching for her katana, just as his finger began squeezing the trigger. From below, Cybersix was watching in horror. For, in the confusion, the gun was not aimed at her- but at her sister.
She tried to shout out a warning, but the sound of her voice was no match for the speed of a bullet.
There was a loud BANG! and Kayla cried out in pain, instinctly pressing her hands to the wound. Jose had shot her from the back! There was another BANG! He shot her again! She pulled her hands away and saw them. They were covered with dark red blood tinged with green. She continued to bleed.
"I'm bleeding... oh God, I'm bleeding!"
She looked down. There was more blood, soaking through her black clothes. She felt dizzy, gasping like a fish out of water. "Help me," she whispered.
She began to fall off the railing, Jose still cackling in the background.
"KAYLA!!" cried out Cybersix, her voice thick with fear and disbelief. Everything to her seemed to be in slow motion: Jose pointing, Kayla turning around, an awful shot ringing out, Kayla falling.. falling.. falling.. Cybersix jumped up and caught her sister. But it was too late: it was the end for the 338th Cyber. The look on Kayla's white face told Cybersix that her sister knew her fate.
"Don't worry," she said desperately, "It's going to be okay... You're going to be okay..."
Kayla looked faintly up at Cybersix. She was having trouble breathing: the bullet had not only pierced her spinal cord, but also punctured a lung. She smiled. "No," she said softly, "I'm not."
Cybersix was crying now. "Please don't talk like that... you'll be all right.. if you could just..."
Kayla reached up and touched her sister's tears. "Goodbye sister. I love you."
She let out a sigh. Her eyes closed.
Kayla was dead.
Cybersix cradled her sister's dead body, her strength evaporating as she stared at Kayla's still, serene face. "No," she breathed, practically mouthing the words, "No. No... no no no no no no no..."
The monster exploded, raining fire and debris over everywhere. The factory was set on fire. Cybersix hardly noticed, for she was still grief-stricken over Kayla.
Jose began to cackle. "I did it!" he shouted, jumping up and down, "I killed her! I killed her! HAH! In your face Cybersix! Don't mess with the Great Jose! Who's the best-"
Jose stopped short as he saw Cybersix glaring at him. She began to stand up, the fire caught in her eyes as she fought to hold back her tears. She was not in the mood to humor Jose, not after what happened. Jose suddenly realized that he was in very real mortal danger. He had never seen Cybersix so angry before.
"Get out," she hissed murderously, her voice thick and contorted.
Data 7 growled at them.
Jose backed away, and motioned to his Fixed Ideas.
"Go! GO, you dolts! Get me out of here!"
They did, leaving Cybersix alone with Kayla.
Cybersix hugged Kayla. "I love you too," she whispered through her tears. Her tears curtained her face, there were so many.
The ceiling began to groan and break apart. Data 7 made a warning growl. Cybersix looked up to see flaming pieces falling down at her. She grabbed Kayla and moved out of the way just in time. More pieces were crumbling. The factory was falling apart.
A huge explosion rocked the earth as the factory erupted in flames. Cybersix and Data 7 ran swiftly and was slapped by an angry red hand, out of the fiery building.
She slammed onto the cool ground, still carrying Kayla, weeping.
Julian came running towards the still figure. He stopped when he saw Kayla.
"Is she..."
Cybersix did not respond.
"No," he whispered, "Oh no."
He crouched down, staring at her. Her sweet, cold face. Her hands that were once full of magic and life. Julian began to cry.
"How...?" How did she die? How could she die?
"I don't know Julian," whispered Cybersix.
She embraced Julian, two figures dwarfed by the towering inferno of the factory.
