The Chase

By Nightflower

Cybersix's jaw dropped but she didn't have time to think about it. The stranger was already getting away- and at an inhuman speed too. Quickly Cybersix jumped onto the roof and followed the woman. Data 7 jumped too.
"No, Data 7," said Cybersix, "Stay back."
Data 7 growled.
Cybersix stopped and knelt to face him. "I think it's better if I go after her alone. I have a feeling seeing you would freak her out more...and she already seems paranoid enough!"
The panther glared at his sister, but obediently turned around and jumped down.

Cybersix ran to catch up with the cloaked figure. But the girl was fast- she didn't run with the clumsy lopsidedness of a normal human being. She didn't run like a normal human being at all.
Cybersix at first conserved her energy; she was, after all, a Cyber. But soon she found that she was struggling to catch up. This girl was astonishingly fast... Cybersix had to strain to catch up. Her lungs were screaming for air... that rarely happened ever, at all.
Whoosh. The woman leapt onto the church bell tower, and Whoosh, then onto an office building.
Whoosh. Cybersix followed, from the bell tower, Whoosh, to the office building.
"Would you just stop please?" shouted Cybersix in frustration. "I'm not going to hurt you!"
The stranger did not answer. She continued running and jumping, and Cybersix was forced to continue.
Whoosh. The woman leapt from rooftop to rooftop.
Whoosh. Cybersix followed.
Whoosh. Nimbly, the woman did not look back, but continued leaping gracefully, like a gazelle, like Cybersix.
Whoosh. Cybersix followed.
"I just want to know who you are, and how you can run and jump like me! C'mon, please stop. Oh, for the love of-"
The two leapt around Meridiana for two hours, before Cybersix finally caught up. Just when the stranger was about to jump again, Cybersix grabbed the end of her cloak and pulled her back.

The sudden stop made her hood came off, revealing a girl with long black hair. She cried out as Cybersix grabbed her and buried her face in her hair. But Cybersix had caught a small glimpse of her, despite the girl's efforts to mask herself. Her face was insanely familiar...
"Stop- struggling...I just want to know where you- unh!"
The girl had kicked her in the face and was now running away, pulling the hood back over her face when...

"Aaah!"
Data 7 jumped up from behind the girl and knocked her over. She fell to the ground, pinned by the giant panther. As she fell, a vial of sustenance came out from the folds of her cloak and began rolling away. She tried to reach it, but she couldn't move. It fell off the building and shattered on the ground below.
"Look what you've done!" she screamed, "I needed that!"
Data 7 growled for her to be silent.

Cybersix ran up to them. "Data 7, I thought I told you to stay back."
The panther made a noise that sounded a lot like a disgusted snort.
Cybersix smiled. "But I'm glad you didn't listen." She bent down to look at the writhing girl. "Now, I hope you're in a better mood to answer our questions-"

Just then the girl rose and threw Data 7 away effortlessly. The cat was airborne and crashed onto Cybersix. The two struggled to get free of each other. When Cybersix finally got up, the girl was gone.
She sighed. "Now I know how Lucas feels when I just disappear."
She rubbed Data 7's ears. "I wonder who she was. Definitely not human, but I don't think that she's under Von Reichter's control either. I wonder...I wonder if...if she could be our sister."
Data 7 grumbled. It was obvious that he didn't think much of that theory. Cybersix laughed. "I suppose our sister would have had better manners than that. Let's go Data 7. Sun's almost up and I have to go to work."
