Mollösunds History

It has existed for a long time, but it was first mentioned in a letter from (King?) Fredrik the year 1564, at that time there was a church with a priest already and also a for the "tullen" the society flurished especially during the sillfish period during 1500 later part. How ever when the fish diminished it grwe difficult to live there since most there lived out of fishing
the year 1610, there where 47 "strandsittare" and "hantverkare"
35 years later it is 207 people and several more poor people
1660-1680 there is more fish in the sea there,
the year 1666 the State started a new fishregement, which said that sill fish was to be catched everywhere but only brought to shore salted and packed at 6 different places at Bohuskusten at there was Mollösund amongst them, and it helped very much for them.
Late 1700 was some few fish locations that had a house just for fishthings and things.
1800 during the 1800 sillfish vanished from alot of places and the population deminished as well as the business. the Salterierna and Trankokerierna was tore down
1834 the area was struck by Colera but already by 1850:s everything looked better the Colera was long gone, and the state offered help by loans and aids to fishermen for getting new boats and stuff (only back then not now)
1863 the popuation had grown to 544 people and the(big) deep fishing flurished once again during 1860-1870:s and during that time Mollösund and Gullholmen together became the leading villages in Bohuslän
1877 the fishing still flurished and the population continued to grow and during the last years of 1800 the old boats was for the most part traded in for more modern ones
during 1889 the first English boat type=Kutter was bought and used in Mollösund(probably long before on other cities..) Before they used older Bankskutor and other boats, but then the English Kutter came along...
During the season when they wasn't allowed to fish they sailed the boat or used it to move around things with
1890 there was 20 skippers at Mollösund and as the village flurished and there where more jobs in the small firms ( almost small factories)

1900

When the first world war ended the fishing was interesting and there where alot of competition that lead to deminished profit and lower prices because of fresher fish and because of norweigen import of the fish långa , 1914 there was 27 Kutters in Mollösund alone!
But under the 1930:s Mollösund had 13-17 boats for fishing and that employed about 100 fishermen
There was a rather constant deminishing of the boats that carried cargo
1939 those who wheren't called into war was fishing with drivgarn for makrill or trålade i Kattegatt and parts of nordicsea
Just before the war broke out there was about 130 fishermen with 15-18 larger boats, after the peace came in there was only 70 active fishermen over 9-10 boats
Balkar and Kajsegment i stål and betong started to be made at the kajplan
at the beginning at 1940 there where only 4-5 fishermen there most of them left to work at industries or work at other places
1950:s there where about 9-10 boats out fishing in Mollösund bigseafishing every year and they trålade in Kattegatt, Skagerack and Nordsjön
ALso drivgarnsfiske near Island
1950 the bigsea fishing deminished so most of the fishermen looked to otherways of fishing, like sillfishing in Fladen
1960:s a strong improvement in the fishing
1963 is called there at least for "stora sillfiskets år" =the big sillfish year" directly translated..
Shrimp and sillfishing grew once again and all invested in new ståltrålare= a kind of boats,
by 1967 Mollösund had around 6 large boats for fishing, three for deepfishing and 2 for fishing for the industry and one for "trålade" shrimp

Norra Hamnen

Hamnområdet that is called= Nor-lejet Sör-lejet as this area is called, was apparently the poorest part of the village, there it was the fishermen and hantverkare who lived there with their families,
There is a wind-mill there a truly beauty
