It was an incredible day at Vermont and The Prometheus Gift was no
different. From a wide draw, things could have been made a little difficult
for School Kris but a brilliant ride from Nonantais Lawton saw
this remarkalble horse fly home. School Kris has been high in his
division (older horses) for for a long while and is now ranked NO.2. He has
been given a computer rating of 119 second only to the great Enough
Knock. He was close up all the way, settling in well. Then they rounded
the bend and he moved into the lead! In a split second he was 2 lengths
clear and strolled home in the straight to win by 4 3/4 lengths.
His
nearest betting rival was Shin Brook who stayed on strongly but was
an outpaced seventh place. Shin Brook ran a 109SF for the Vikings and his
trainer Mrtrav but couldn't get close to the leaders, suggesting that
another two furlongs would be ideal and he would come into his own.
The
battle between Theatrical and Mrtrav was won by the stable of
Theatrical, keeping up the high standard he sets. After this training
performance he will go down as one of the greatest SIM trainers ever,
second, in my opinion, only to Wahoo. Mrtrav must be praised for his
training performance with Shin Brook but it will be a surprise if Brook
isn't tried over 10 furlongs. That would be a brilliant sight!
Back to
the horses and School Kris has always been a horse of power and guts but
today he showed style, running a stunning 120SF in the process. A battle
with Enough Knock would be mouthwartering, as both are in their very
best form. School Kris provided a Gold Medal to California, who were one of
the most sucessful training centers in The Equinics.
Silver went
to Nebraska with S. Dance. Drawn in stall 6, S. Dance, came from
towards the back to fly home under a strong drive just pipping Pleasant
Neck, who settled for Bronze. S. Dance is becoming a real class horse
and his 113SF shows that. He's earned over 1/2 a million dollars in
prize-money and must be the horse to watch because he's run a blinder at
13/1. Nevada got the Bronze medel with Pleasant Neck, who was 14/1. He was
held up and came from the clouds but S. Dance had a stronger run. Pleasant
Neck also ran a 113SF.
Louis' Fool was 33/1 and ran a cracker,
finishing 6 lengths fourth. R Haffner, who suffered dissapointment with
Down The Jazz, produced the horse with a determined run, and he kept
on going all the way to the line and by no means let down New York, where
he's trained. Foggy A.P., Minnesota, ran a good race in fifth
compleating the longshots sucess, places second to fifth being filled with
13/1 shots or higher. Foggy A.P. is clearly a good horse and was up there
most of the way but couldn't hang on for a medel.
Lucky Light,
from Turfstar(Longchamp), was a bit of a dissapointment finishing an
outpaced sixth. When his jockey asked him to go, the horse responded by
gaining a length on the nearest horse, but he couldn't sustain that. Shin
Brook, as mentioned earlier, was seventh, with the win or nowhere horse,
Shy Project(Vermont), in 8th place. In ninth, from Delawere, was
Hasty Door and in tenth Tom A.P., who was representing Iowa.
Filling the last couple of places were Night Grass(North California),
in eleventh, and Can Rizzo(Ireland) in 12th place.
Well, it was
an outstanding performance from School Kris to demolish a brilliant
field, taking his earnings to nearly $4,000,000, but credit must go to all
the other horses, jockeys and connections who have combined to make this a
great day. My thanks goes to Vermont and ldyssecret, who made this happen,
and of course, to Sharon (my boss) and Roys (my other boss) who pay my
wages, and to Rob from North Carolina, who gave Shin Shocking a chance in
The Dionysus, and of course to The Editor MJL and finally to Mike...that man
is a true champion.
This has been Robb G at the SIM's
spectacular...The Equinics.
