Day 2 - On the ferry to italy

Day 2, Adriatic Sea, June 26th 2000

Dear Diary !

Our horses had to give their best, so that we could reach our ferry. Luckily bodgit´s FLAT WORLD was a little fresher than our horses, so he could take the lead and stop the boat. Some other longchamp residents joined us at the harbor and lucky, a german coffee shop owner, volunteered to do the cooking. It was a lousy, old boat and we wondered how it should carry all our horses. It moaned with each wave and I doubted that the land route through yugoslavia would have been less safe. It wasn´t lucky´s fault that even the horses fed the sea with whatever they had eaten the days before - it was just too windy for that walnut shell we had hired as a ferry... Davarto didn´t really help with playing his oversized flute. He said it was a magical didgeridoo with the power to soothe our stomaches - it did exactly the opposite.... It was almost night when we noticed that we had forgotten to take some fresh water with us. Believe me, I really didn´t like to share my beer with my star horse HER DANCES... After we had given most of our alcoholic beverages to our multiple stakes winners, no more sleeping was possible with those snoozing nags. Near the italian coast we passed some millionaire´s boats and answered their dirty laughter in a way I do not want to describe here... Just let your fantasy play when I say it has something to do with a catapult and the way horses get rid of previously eaten organic matter... At least that helped little in cheering us up again. As the sun set, we had almost reached our destination. Though it was cold and rainy we were happy to set our feet and hooves on firm ground again - even though it was italian ground.... But this is another day and another story....

...to be continued.
