The moon has a yearly as well as a monthly cycle. Each cycle has its own meanings and magickal purposes.
Monthly Moon Cycle: Each of the eight monthly moon phases is associated with a theme, magickal work, Goddess type, and holiday/sabbat. The time between the New and Full moon is known as the Waxing moon. The time between the Full and Dark moon is known as the Waning moon.
New Moon: 3.5 days after the Dark Moon

Crescent Moon: Time between new moon and first half moon.

The yearly moon cycle goes by full moons. Many people have heard of Blue Moon’s, which is what two full moons in one month is called, but not many know the names of the monthly moons.
