This lesson came into exsitance because one of our members has recently lost a loved one. We hope that this will help her and anyone else who may be grieving.
I know of some books that can help with death of loved ones. One book is the "Pagan Book of Death and Dying". It is a book co-authored with Starhawk by Nightmare. From what I have read from it, it sounded like a good book. Another good book is "Halloween" by Silver Ravenwolf. It has a whole chapter on talking with the dead and crossing over rituals (funerals).
This following spell comes from Silver Ravenwolf's book "Teen Witch Kit: Everything You Will Need to Make Magic". This book is a part of a teen witch kit sold by Llewellyn.

When dealing with death we need a sense of closure. It
is thought that there is a resting time between death
and when the person is able to communicate with you. This time can be as short as a few days or may be several months. Eventually you may have some kind of
communication that tells you that they are all right.
First, light a candle (the persons favorite color) or
get their favorite flower and place them on the altar
and lay your pentacle pendent around them. Have
tissues handy, it is very healthy to cry. Cast the
circle call the quarters.
Stand in the middle of the circle and say their name three times. Then say this prayer written by David Noris.
"You have gone and now I wonder
Why it is you must depart.
And even though you’re just a memory
Your spark of life is in my heart.
No tears of wishing bring you back
No hope can change this plan of time.
I must wait as you go onward
Into those Summerlands divine.
The sun in this world, where you left me,
Rises, shining, then descends,
Setting in the western quarter
Yes soon to come back up again.
Within your land there is no shadow
And love eternal never dies.
I know you’re with me every moment
Even though this brief goodbye."
If you can, let the candle burn down.
I hope that this spell will help any one that really needs it. I know that it helped me to get over the death of my dog lady. She meant a lot to me and I find myself thinking about her even a year after her death. When I do I go to my altar and light a candle for her or get something to offer her that she liked (table scraps any one). I know that she is still with me watching out for me as she always did. I had a beautiful dream once as I slowly woke that she was lying on my bed trying to comfort me. I woke feeling loved. I knew she was all right.
Blessed be to all in this world and the next.
