The barbs were flying on the backside all week. Cadet and I each
claiming
that our six-year-old mare would prove dominant in this week's
Congie/Einstein special. Before the race, I had to pick Cadet's brain
asking
him how he decided on such a unique name for the race. Satisfied by
the
answer we decided to go down to the paddock and saddle up our charges.
Dynacat Form my chestnut daughter of Dynaformer was listed as the 3/5
favorite. She looked good in the paddock, but I was afraid she would
be a
little flat after her ship in from Europe. I had my eyes on the
upcoming
graded races in the States. If she ran well today, I knew she would be
tough.
Two stalls down, Cadet was saddling Big Project his daughter of Mr.
Prospector
. Listed as the 8/5 second-choice, Big Project had already won a
stakes race
at Vermont, so I knew I was in for a rough test. Cadet told me he was
looking at this race as a prep race, too, but I knew his mare would be
one
tough customer. We shook hands and went to our respective stalls.
Also in the race were Nasrullah's Rain Tootsie, Saver's Zone Tickling
and Starke Lynne sent out by Ldys in her Horsenotes stable.
The race apppeared to be a story of two halves. As they burst from the
gate,
the 99/1 longshot Starke Lynne fired to the front trying to steal the
race on
the front end. Big Project settled into 2nd with Dynacat Form third.
Racing
comfortably in fourth was Rain Tootsie with Zone Tickling trailing
early.
At
the half-mile pole, the pacesetter began to tire as Big Project,
Dynacat Form
and Rain Tootsie began their moves in earnest. Big Project gained
command
with Rain Tootsie in hot pursuit and Dynacat Form closing in from
third. As
they hit the stretch, Big Project and Dynacat Form were head to head.
Through the lane, Big Project grudgingly gave was as Dynacat Form drew
off to
a hard fought two and a half length victory. The complete order of
finish
was Dynacat Form, Big Project, Rain Tootsie, Zone Tickling and Starke
Lynne.
After the race all parties were happy. I was pleased with the victory,
Cadet
liked the way his mare has prepped for the graded stakes and Ldys was
thrilled at how hard her mare fought. Nasrulla and Saver both felt
that the
race did not hurt their mares and look forward to the future. The race
was
hard fought and all the mares did fantastic. I expect to see many of
these
warriors in bigger races in the future.
