Well 10 runners turned up for the resident restricted Starter
Allowance, for
a grand purse of $100000.
The owners had been strolling the ring before the race and the buzz was
this
was going to be a three horse race.
Market leaders Project Pete, Berzerk AP and Toms Dancer all considered
in
with a chance.
Everyone knew Project Pete was the trailblazer and the others late
finishers,
so how would it go?
Rumours were rife that Phillipj had admitted in a recent report that he
had
been trying to illegally enhance the length of his horses nose, tho, a vets
examination would later be unable to substantiate this report.
The horses went into the gates smoothly and they were off.
Project Pete rocketed to the front and quickly established a long lead
after
just two furlongs. He was 7 and 8 lengths clear of his closest rivals
Berzerk
AP and Toms Dancer. It was clear Toms jockey had instructions to track
Berzerk through and lead late.
The stretch came and Project Pete was still 4 lengths clear. Had they
left it
too late?
The distress signals went up from all three jockeys.
Project Pete was folding up in front and the gap was closing, inside
the one
and Berzerk AP finally overhauls Pete, BUT it is not over for Toms
Dancer is
stretching again. HE WILL NOT BE DEFEATED with only strides to the line
Toms
Dancer gets his nose in front and flashes past the post a head to the
good,
Berzerk AP a brave second, one and a half back to the valiant Project
Pete
who tried to make all with over 11 lengths back to fourth.
Buzzfly was overjoyed and has no plans as yet for the
horse. This
was Toms third win from four for Buzzfly and with a respectable 96
speed
fig the owner should be very pleased.
Later that day Buzzfly also found out that Toms Dancer had been voted
Horse
of the Week. Buzzfly added that after such a heart stopping race it
could
well have been Race of the Week.
