A Dividing of Paths: Reasons to Part with the United States
- The United States is quickly moving into a global monoculture based upon
the urban/suburban ideal. Vermont has never had a place in this facet of the
American Dream. What is more alarming perhaps is the fact that the Urban-
Industrial complex is beginning to reach into the agrarian economy of Vermont in
the form of corporate farms and big-business real estate. In order to preserve
ourselves, we must facilitate a separation from the Urban-Industrial United
States.
- As the urban US continues to grow in population, the agrarian US will
continue to shrink in proportion. This will inevitably result in the continued
loss of representation in the Federal government. In order for a democracy to
exist in Vermont, we must become self governed.
- There is a quiet cultural war being waged in Vermont. Vermonters are being
instructed to give up all the qualities that define the people of the Green
Mountains. In order to make the world safe for suburban consumerism, Vermont is
being forced into a mold of picturesque white houses and red barns. If this
continues we will no longer be free or strong: we will be “quaint”. Let us save
ourselves!
