Steps to a Stronger Vermont
- Lift the Inheritance Tax on family farms. Vermont’s family farms are crippled
by the cumbersome Inheritance Tax. Many farms are forced to fold when they are
passed from one generation to the next. In order to strengthen our agrarian
traditions we must lift this burden from the small farms. Revenue lost due to
these reforms could be made up for by taxes on corporate farms.

- Decriminalize marijuana. Recognizing that some may find this idea distasteful,
we must nonetheless end our irrational prohibition against our state’s most
important moneymaker.
- More authority to the towns. Town meeting is our most hallowed custom. The
modern trend of centralizing authority must stop if Vermont is to survive.
Perhaps a system like that laid out in John McClaughry and Frank Bryan’s The
Vermont Papers would work best, perhaps another. What is clear though is this:
the people must be given the power to self-determination if we are to protect our
future.
