VERMONT CAMPAIGN ON TWO WEBSITES Northeast Research Associates (Jay & Judy) created a Vermont Sierra Blanca Campaign website.  It has a picture from the May 1 rally, the petition, and the Updates (in progress, right now it has the VT Times article, "Nuke 'Em, Pat.").  All the Updates will be posted here, eventually.

There is a Vermont section at the Sierra Blanca Defense website with LOTS of pictures from the May 1 rally:
We need to post more events (like the afsc WALK) at the compassionate website. Right now, it has the can ACTION CAMP listing, which is great!  If you have an event to list, please go to the website, and send email to heart. Also, please send your posting to me for this website Vermont.chapter@sierraclub.org.

*SEN. READY OPPOSED TO NUCLEAR DUMP IN TEXAS, PROPOSES HEARINGS From Senator Ready I appreciate getting all the info on the nuclear dump in Texas.  As you may know, I strongly opposed the dump when it was up for legislative approval and I always will...  Let me know what I can do to help.  Perhaps I can sponsor, as Chair of the Natural Resources Committee, a hearing on the matter and invite the folks from Texas.  My big concern is that once we ship the waste, it is out of state and out of mind.  The only solution to the dilemna is to stop generating nuclear waste by closing the plant.

To thank Sen. Ready, and/or comment on her proposal to hold a hearing, please email her  EREADY@wpgate.leg.state.vt.us.

NUKE ROUTE MAP FILE ATTACHED, POSTCARDS BEING DISTRIBUTED File Attached is a map of the transportation route the waste would take from Vermont to Texas.  VT Chapter of Sierra Club has printed postcards for distribution at B&J One World One Heart (and other events), to be mailed to friends and family along the route. The message reads

VERMONT DON'T DUMP IN TEXAS!

SIERRA BLANCA UPDATES POSTED ON INT'L COW LIST? From Susan Lee Solar: It occurred to me you might want to be on the email list of a group of women around the world, many of whom have met together in a COuncil of WOmen to ENd the Nuclear AGe either in Texas or in Nevada the past 3 years. ... E-mail my friend Stevie stevie.desaille@ecn.cz this week, at this address and tell her you'd like to be added to the COW list.  IF you know any other women who also do anti=nuke work who'd like to be on it, they can do the same.

KUDOS FROM DAVE Just wanted to say that you are all doing an amazing organizing job! It is good to be reminded of what is possible when you are on the side of justice, and are willing to put in the energy to organize.

PELLIGRO VIDEO ON PATV THIS WEEK, SPONSORED BY SIERRA CLUB The video was produced in Sierra Blanca, it's excellent! It's 30 minutes long, and we've added speeches in Congress about the Compact (featuring Reps. Bonilla, Sanders, Doggett, etc.) To request a copy, please call Ch2 (802 862-5724).

WILL VERMONT BE SUED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RACISM? I haven't received an electronic copy of the VT Times article, "Will Vermont Be Sued for Environmental Racism?" yet.  When I get it, I will post it on the website, and send it out in an Update. Gretching Fryling did an outstanding job gathering information for this article. She spoke with Bill Addington at length, and the article includes a picture of Bill in front of his business, which was torched by arsonists.

LEAHY, WELLSTONE, HIGHTOWER TOGETHER IN CHICAGO October 9-11, Congress Hotel, Forum on "Future of the American Left." Chicago activists seek information about status of TX-ME-VT Compact, and update on Leahy's Conference Committee.

NOTES:

More petitions arrive daily -- it's amazing how they are getting around!  Keep up the good work!  Two people came by to get extra copies of the VT Sierran, which contains the Sierra Blanca petition, the NAACP Resolution, and an article about the VT Rally. If you can use copies of this issue of VT Sierran, please call 888 729-4109.
