My Stroke Story
On January 5, 1995,
I suffered a Thalamic CVA (Cerebro Vascular Accident). In other words a stroke which left me paralyzed on my left side. Luckily, I'm right-handed
so I can still type (with one hand). I can walk a little, about thirty
feet at a time with the aid of a cane, and I have an electric scooter which
takes me around the neighborhood very nicely!
I used to do woodworking
out in my shop, but of course, I had to sell all my tools, which made me very
sad. I built Adirondack chairs and picnic tables (you can see a few of the
chairs on the next page).
I joined the Seniors Network and found a
lot of information about strokes and a lot of good web sites for Seniors, and also,
many E-mail friends. If you're a retired "senior citizen" this is a highly recommended web site. For instance, if you would like to take an inexpensive
vacation, you might want to check out the section about exchanging your house
for a couple of weeks in someone else's house or camp.
The National
Stroke Association has a wonderful web site for stroke survivors with a lot
of information about strokes and heart attacks.
