Chapter 3

After the movie ended....

"DId you like the movie?" Alex asked as she and Zac walked home.

"It was better then I expected." Zac replied as he stepped around a puddle. He looked all around him at the people.

"Hurry and don't look back. This is a dangerous part of town." Alex advised.

She grabbed his hand, as if it would keep her safe. She began to walk faster, avoiding the eyes of the burnt-out druggies and women who sold their bodies that walked around them. Suddenly she stopped. A large man was blocking her path.

"Hey babe wanna go for a ride?" He was drunk, with a bunch of girls hanging on him.

Zac could smell the cocaine on his breath.

Alex just said shortly, "No." And walked away.

He turned around.

"Well, you and your little girly boy will just have to anyway!" He laughed, and all the freaks hanging on him did too. He grabbed her coat with his massive hand and Alex tried in vain to jerk away. With his other he grabbed Zac. Alex and Zac struggled out of their coats and broke into a run, not knowing where to go.

"Hey get back here you little pansies!!"

"Don't look back Zac, just give me your hand and run. And don't scream." Alex said, so scared she could barely get the words out.

"I know the way from here." She grabbed him and pulled him to a trail, and they blindly ran.

Alex said again, "I know the way!!"

Until they stopped in a clearing. "Or maybe not." She stared, eyes wide, at the three paths that stood in front of her.

"Just pick one!! If they find us..they'll..they'll.."

"I know!" Alex said, still trying to catch her breath.

"Uh....that one!! Let's go!!" She pulled his arm and they raced through the woods, not sure where they would end up.
