ANTHONY WRIGHT: Biography

Anthony is the cousin of former NFL defensive back Jesse Campbell.In 2001, Wright joined Dallas Cowboys Peppi Zellner and Troy Hambrick in the NFL High School Tuesday program, a day that all NFL teams visited a local high school. The group spoke to the R.L. Turner H.S. football team in Carrollton, Texas. about the importance of setting goals, focusing on education and planning for the future. Born 2/14/76 in Vanceboro, N.C.Wright Was named All-America by SuperPrep magazine as a senior at West Craven (Vanceboro, N.C.) H.S.He led the Gamecocks in total offense (1,955 total yards) during his final season. Anthony completed 139-of-252 passes for 18 TDs and five INTs as a junior before tearing the ACL in his right knee against Tennessee and missing the final two games of the season. He ranked seventh in the Southeastern Conference in total offensive yards-per-game (193.4) as a junior. As a first-year starter as a sophomore, Wright completed 131-of-244 passes for 1,850 yards, eight TDs and six INTs. He posted a 116.3 quarterback rating as a senior on 145-of-273 passing for 1,899 yards, 10 TDs and 10 INTs despite overcoming major knee surgery during his junior campaign. In 2002 wright Listed as third QB and did not play weeks 12-16. Wright was designated 3rd quarterback vs. Pit. (10/27) and 3rd quarterback vs. Jax. (10/20). Signed to the active roster from the practice squad on 10/15.Wright took the field for three starts in place of Quincy Carter in 2001 and guided Dallas to its first victory of the season. In two seasons, Wright directed the Dallas offense with a strong arm, fine athletic ability and solid instincts. A student of the game, Wright has excellent work habits and an ability to elude pressure and make plays on the run. He entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Pittsburgh in 1999 and earned a spot on the Steelers’ 53-man roster. As a Junior in College AW tore his anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) in his right knee against the Vols of Tennessee. Anthony Wright wore #1 while at USC.  Anthony was originally drafted by the Steelers in 1999, signed with the Cowboys in 2000 and was cut and signed with the Ravens in 2002. Anthony Wright resigned to a 2 yrs contract around $3 million.
