The Call Chapters 9-10
Chapter Nine
6:00 A.M.
"Hello. I'm Dr. Morrison," he said as he was shaking hands with Isabel.
"I'm Isabel Henderson. I'm Howie's fiancee."
"I have some bad news. We thought he had regained consciousness, but..."
She gasped. "He's dead?" She couldn't believe it.
"No, he's not dead. We thought he was coming around, but it was a false alarm."
"I want to see him."
"Izzy, I don't think you should," Nick said.
"Nick, you don't understand. I love him," she snapped.
Brian stood up and clapped Nick on the shoulder. "Let her go. Maybe he'll come around." He turned towards the doctor. "Please let her see him."
Dr. Morrison looked at Isabel. "Go see him. Not for long though."

"Howie, it's me Isabel. Please come back to me."
Howie's body was still motionless. "What happened to him?" she wondered. "Where is he?" She put her head on his bed and started crying. Then, she felt a hand combing through her hair. She looked up and saw Howie's brown eyes staring back at her.

Chapter Ten
"Oh my God! Howie you're awake!"
He nodded. "Where am I?"
She started crying. "You were in a really bad car accident. Oh, Howie, I missed you so much."
Dr. Morrison came into the room to tell Isabel to leave. "Oh my Lord. You're awake. I'll unhook some of these machines and tell the rest of your family."
Howie looked at Isabel. "How long have I been like this?"
"Two days. I'll go for now. Everyone else wants to see you." She kissed his cheek and started to leave with Dr. Morrison.
He saw the diamond ring on Isabel's finger. "Do they know?" he asked as she left the room.
She turned to face him. "Yes."

Isabel and Dr. Morrison walked to the waiting room.
"Iz? How is he?" Kevin asked.
Dr. Morrison answered for her. "He's awake. A little confused about what happened and why he's here, but fine."
"Can we see him?" Nick asked.
"Yes but one at a time."
Isabel looked at AJ. "Go ahead, AJ. You're his best friend."
He got up, hugged Isabel, and ran down the hall.

Two Days Later
"Ok, Howie, you can go home," Dr. Morrison said as he checked his papers.
"Thank God. I kinda miss my bed," he said as he took Isabel's hand.
The doctor laughed. "You two stay out of trouble. Good luck with your marriage."
Isabel laughed. "Thank you." She turned to Howie. "Are you ready? AJ said he'd drive you home."
He smiled. "Let's get out of here!"
She laughed. "That's the man I know and love!" Then she got a serious look on her face. "I decided to move to Orlando."
"That would be great! We can spend more time with each other before the tour starts!"
Dr. Morrison brought a wheelchair into the room. "Are you ready?"
He got into the chair. "As ready as I'll ever be!"
They brought him outside where AJ was waiting. Howie got into the car, followed by Isabel. She took his hand. "I don't know what I would've done if you left me," she said.
He kissed her cheek. "I would never leave you. There's just one thing we have to do."
She looked at him, confused. "And what is that?"
He brought her hand up so she could see her engagement ring.
"We have to plan the wedding."
