Fiddle
Repair Project |
I
was given this fiddle after it was damaged by moisture. The owner was
going to "throw it in the burn pile." Since the instrument seems
to have no value, I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn a
bit about violin repair, and hopefully salvage this instrument. |

There
are several obvious issues. The top and bottom plates have seperated from
the sides in 2 places. |
|
Also there are several
cracks in the top. There are 2repaired cracks, but 2 open ones remain.

The violin is old, and believed
to be german in origin. The tailpiece is metal, marked: 'Kronotone Germany'
The only other distinguishing feature
is that the tail block seems to be 'pegged' in place on the back. There
is a second peg on the heel of the neck.

Inside there is a label which reads
(as near as I can make out):
