Fiddle Repair Project
I was given this fiddle after it was damaged by moisture. The owner was going to "throw it in the burn pile." Since the instrument seems to have no value, I thought it would be a good opportunity to learn a bit about violin repair, and hopefully salvage this instrument.
There are several obvious issues. The top and bottom plates have seperated from the sides in 2 places.
Also there are several cracks in the top. There are 2repaired cracks, but 2 open ones remain.

The violin is old, and believed to be german in origin. The tailpiece is metal, marked: 'Kronotone Germany' The only other distinguishing feature is that the tail block seems to be 'pegged' in place on the back. There is a second peg on the heel of the neck.

Inside there is a label which reads (as near as I can make out):
