On September 13, 2001 the Stembrosky-Katchak VFW Post #6982 and Ladies Auxiliary hosted a Candlelight Vigil in front of the Post home. This event was well received with appoximately 150 residents in attendance. Candles were distributed throughout the group.
Leading the group in prayer and inspirational comments were Reverand Wayne Benack of the English Congregational Church, Coaldale and Reverand Ilona Kerr, Tamaqua.
Comments were offered by John Radocha Post Quartermaster and Edward Blasko Post Treasurer. The "National Prayer" was recited by Auxiliary President MaryAnn Turner.
Patriotic music was played in between the recitations.
Several town residents took the opportunity to make comments about the attacks on our nation and to offer prayers for the victims, survivors, rescue personnel and our military troops.
